Re: 170 200 6 cyl Engines & Fordomatic Trans ?'s

I have a 64 comet..170& c4..the tranny gave up..in the mean time my son blew the 200 in his 66 mustang.. out of fear7 need..the 170 bolted right in. it has ran strong for the last 2 years. the 6&v8 have different bellhousings. i currently have a 260& fm2 in my comet. i have a c4&fm2& also a 3speed for the 6 cyl. Looking at the 6 bell housing the starter mounts about 10 oclock..the v8 is about 8 oclock.. many people told me when in i got my 260..the 5 bolt & 6 cyl housings were the same. the 170 & 200 flexplates are the same..youn should try to remove the pilot bearing so the torque converter will fit. the spacer goes between the flex plate & the crank..if it is not there you will ruin your converter & input shaft..trust me on this!! and a 6 cyl converter is like finding hens teeth. Also use the seperator plat and starter that is with your current transmission.
