    Hi...this is DoctorBill AGAIN !

I have the chance to buy a '90 Geo Tracker with supposedly 92k miles on it.

    http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/5082172847.html

The guy wants $2,000 for it. Won't go down.

I wanted to ask you if that is too much $$.

It has an Automatic, so it really is a '91.
Was told by the local Transmission place (Louis' Transmission in Spokane)
that that is a Pinto or Chevette Automatic and not very strong.
He told me if the differentials are worn out, they cost a Buttload of $$
    to replace or fix.

Am I stupid to buy that Tracker ? 2d Steel top (not a convertible).
4x4 that seems to work. Goes 55 mph w/o shaking. Seems to have
sufficient power. Told it was used as a service vehicle at a Montana Ski Resort
that is why only 92K miles - but speedo only goes to 99,999 before it turns
over - so it COULD be 192k miles.

    I trust your opinions.

I pulled the CV Axle out with no problems following your recommendations.
The oil drained out into a pan and I took the magnets off the old shaft and put them on the new shaft.
I glued the magnets on (VERY strong magnets) and steel wired them with
    the Aluminum Cups
that came with the Cruise Control (Autovox).

Tomorrow after the Gorilla Glue sets up, I will pop the new shaft in.

I took the inboard side of the old shaft apart . looked fine.
The outboard side had a split boot but I couldn't see anything wrong with it.

But then I imagine a few thousandths worn off makes all the difference.
    Strong looking thing !

I have to pick up the Synchromesh Oil tomorrow at O'Reilly.

Hey Neil ! _ I am about to get a passenger side new CV Axle from O'Reilly tomorrow (Fri). One link shows how to remove the transmission (and get the axle off).

I wanted to go back to those old tacked down posts at the beginning of the Forum and add to one. I have forgotten HOW to put in a link with a title for the link.

BESIDES - That Index post should be open to be added to by all the moderators.
I am pretty much inactive (almost totally inactive!) - so others should add to that Index to help people get to useful info QUICKLY.

I don't even remember how to contact anyone but you !

    Hello again.

My son has a 97 two door Metro hatchback.
We just had the clutch replaced in Spokane by "Clutchland".

The mechanic said his driver's side Ball Joint is totally worn out.
He told me that I should just go too the wrecking yard and buy the entire steering
    assembly for it.

Been a LONG time since I did anything like that.

Is the mechanic guy correct ?

Hey man I was looking around trying to figure out why the chat wasn't working and saw the upgrade post. I knew I was in the right place when I saw your name. I was gonna ask you about emergency fuel shut off on a 2000 jeep cherokee sport 4.0L that was involved in a collision. The engine will turnover but not fire unless I spray starting fluid in the air intake. I read somewhere that jeeps use engine sensors(cps?) to shut down the fuel pump and injectors so if that's the case then the fuel delivery system was probably damaged. The Jeep was t-boned by a Lincoln Aviator between the back passengers door and the rear of the vehicle and the impact was so hard it bent the whole rear end and caved in the opposite side. I just want to determine if the engine is salvageable and able to used or sold as a good engine. Also, I was told that the transfer case might be worth $400 - $500 if it's a certain type - are you aware of what type this is and how I can identify it? Thanks!!
