2000(ish) BMW 323i

Hey, anybody have an experience with a late 90's or 2000 BMW 323i? I can pick one up used here in Ontario for around $7-9K with about 150,000 Kms. I know it's got a small motor but its a Bimmer so I'm guessing it still has some OK pull, especially with a stick, and the driving dynamics are guaranteed to be better than a new compact car. I've always wanted the dynamics of RWD and a good chassis/weight distribution, but not often does it fall into this price range.

If Ford ever brings over a Fiesta ST I'll save my pennies for that, but the chances seem slim at the moment.

Thoughts on small town car dealership

I'm new to this forum but have had an idea for a while to start a small car dealership dealing in only low end used vehicles. The reason only low end used vehicles is #1 my budget and #2 the majority of the population in the area is low income and many of the people have poor credit so I'm sure if I go through with the idea I will need to run some in house financing as well.

The town has around 3k people with another 1500 or so in the surrounding area just in case anyone was wondering.

My question for the community is that I am wondering if anyone has done this before and what types of issues they have had? Was it successful? Was it a waste of time? Or if you possibly have any ideas of your own you are willing to share.

Bought new car, moving overseas - registration question

So this is somewhat complicated. I just bought a car in New Hampshire (no sales tax, and as a military member it is my legal state of residence). It is being shipped to California. I take delivery first week of Dec. It will have temp tags on it. I am then driving cross country. Then in January I am moving overseas to Germany as part of a military move.

Soooo... it will cost quite a bit to register the car (BMW 335d). But seems so crazy to pay so much for stateside registration to then move overseas for 4 years during which I will probably sell the car. I hear in CA military members can have the registration fee waived, but then I also heard I will end up paying some sort of excise tax instead.

Does anyone have some creative advice on how I can avoid paying high registration fees in this circumstance?

thanks,
brian

What are some relatively cheap cars with semi-auto transmissions?

So I'm turning 16 in a few months and my parents are willing to buy me a car (yeah!). I wanted to get a manual, but my dad and his crazy reasons says I can't get one. He said I that could get a car with one of those semi-automatic transmissions that you can use (the ones where you just hit up (+) or down (-) to shift). So my question is: what are some cars to look in to that have this? We're mainly looking at mid-sized cars that are a few years old. And not some high end model. I found the Mitsubishi Galant has this feature on some of the years (i think starting in 07). Any other cars you know of? Thanks!

The V6 Sonata rates very well, but the mileage is giving me concerns. Any opinions, I am hoping to get 20 - 25,000 miles out of the vehicle before buying new in a couple of years.

Early model Volvo XC90, reliable?

As I have posted before I'm looking for a new vehicle for my wife. Kids might become a reality in a few years, but we are tight on cash and want a tall(ish) vehicle with a hatch that has 1) good reliability 2) affordable insurance and 3) reasonable gas mileage.

After looking up our profile on some insurance comparisons sites, apparently our best rates come from a 2004/5 Vovlo XC90, a Saturn Vue, or a Hyundai Santa Fe FWD GLS. For a price of about $13K, an XC90 would have to be a 2004 (maybe '05) model with 100K+ Kms, whereas a Saturn Vue might be a 2006 or 2007 model for the same money, a Santa Fe would be somewhere in the middle.

My question would be am I going to be shelling out more in repair costs to get an older Volvo, or is the better build quality and higher quality materials worth going for an older vehicle? Shpuker, I know you don't like Volvo's, but be objective - put yourself in my shoes. Older, better vehicle or newer, lesser vehicle?

If we wanted to get brand-new we could probably lease/finance a Jeep Patriot or Kia Soul, but the insurance premiums would be an extra $1000/year. It's something most people don't think about when they buy a new car but if you get the wrong vehicle, it can add a 20% increase to your buying cost...

Cheers,
Ak.

I want a car thats relatively quick, preferably a sedan, and I need it to be decent in the snow, and not boring. RWD doesn't worry me too much because I figure I can put some snow tires on it and be safe. Also, I'd prefer a car with a manumatic transmission. I've been looking at '00 - '02 Lincoln LS V8, '99 - '00 Lexus GS300, '99 - '01 Audi A4, etc. Any suggestions?

I've got one for ya, what's better, buying new or used for $350/month? Here's my dilemma. My wife is going to need a new(er) vehicle in the next year or so, probably payments would be $300-350/month. Do I go and get a new compact or midsize car with a great finance rate over 60 months, or do I go and get a nicer car or CUV from a used lot and pay up the 5-8% finance rate they charge.

So a new car I have a brand-new vehicle under warranty, but I have to deal with plummeting depreciation over the next few years. If I buy used, I have a lower purchase price and a nicer car, but the interest rate makes the payments about the same, and no more warranty.

Any suggestions?

I was wanting to buy a 2002 spec-v nissan sentra but i had recently read reviews of numerous people who have had major engine problems with the 02 and 03 models. The Pre-Cat is said to fall apart and get sucked into the engine, destroying it. I also heard that bolts in the intake manifold are prone to coming loose and being sucked into the engine also causing much havoc. Also heard that they have problems with stalling at low speeds and while idleing. Is this all familiar to anyone? Are these people just neglecting their cars and resulting in them running shitty and falling apart, or are these manufacturing errors by nissan that are common and going to happen to every spec-v?
Does Anyone know about this?

Thanks for any help.
