Did anyone dare to build a TKM kit? They offer unique subjects but the quality is terrible. Is there any means to straighten these cars and build them decently? And why on earth do they produce such crap? I mean if they can master a model that accurately, why do not they cast it properly, or let someone else do it for them?

Where do you buy your turned compression fittings?

I have some builds on the horizon in 1/20 and 1/24 and 1/12 that will need (I guess?) a lot of compression fittings / a/n fittings and whatnot (yes, I admit I don't even know what the differences between them are :shakehead)

I know of several sources for these and have bought detail master in the past but they always seem horrendously expensive to me given that on 10$ pack doesn't go very far!

My question is: Do you know of any particularly reasonably priced sources? Where do YOU buy them? Are all the manufacturers in fact comparable?

I DON'T want to make my own out of styrene etc.
I DO want to buy turned metal (or good resin versions) but want to pay as little as possible.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Zap-A-Gap for resin kits

Hi guys

I've tried searching google and this forum for this but haven't really found anything concrete.

I'm expecting to receive my first 'resin' kit in a few weeks and I am buying the additional tools that I will need.

I've read up on some good articles about resin preparation, such making sure I clean the mold releasing agent etc... and how you can't use certain glues and it needs to be CA based (superglue).

A lot of people seem to recommend "Zap-A-Gap"

Image: http://www.lakelandflytying.com/images/zap_a_gap.jpg

Here are some questions I have:

1. Zap-A-Gap is a CA glue right? but it can also be used to cover gaps such as deep scratches/small pits? - does this mean once its cured I just simply sand down the excess? On my tamiya kits I've always used Tamiya putty for this kind of thing... can I still use Tamiya Putty on a resin model....or should I just use CA?

2. Super glue / CA has a really really fast curing time and this worries me. I normally like to pour a drop of poly cement glue on some scrap card and then with a toothpick apply the glue lightly on my model parts. This has worked very well for me, I rarely ever get glue on unwanted places by using this method.

Aren't super glues / CA more like liquid compared to poly cemement in a tube, I can't see myself using the same method of a toothpick for CA. Not only would the glue soak straight through the card but it would probably cure by the time I got it on the toothpick? From the images of the bottle I really don't see a brush attached to the cap. Whats the best method to apply it 'cleanly'.

3. Finally, Zap-A-Gap also comes in 'extra thin' versions, again these seem appealing but the curing team is even faster, I think I would definetley need a brush for this... is the 'extra thin' version worth a shot too?

I'm normally practice on spare body parts to find out what works and what doesn't, but since this is a resin kit (a lot of $$$) I really don't want to mess it up and so I would appreciate any advice from those who have experienced CA glues with Resin kits.

Thanks! :)

Hi all. I am fairly new to proper scale car modeling, I used to build cars when I was younger but never painted properly, but I have some other modeling experience.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to shave molded on badges from 1/24 bodies?
I have the new Aoshima R32 Skyline 4-door that has the "Nissan" and "Skyline" badges molded on the boot. I would like to cut them off, paint the body as normal, then re-attach the badges.
Leaving them in place will mean they get coated with clear and I am sure they will lose definition.

Has anybody done this? Do you just use a #11 blade? A saw? Some other method?

I am going to post up a WIP on the Aoshima Evolution I am building, which is what prompted me to ask this question, this car also has the Mitsubishi emblem molded onto the boot and even after a couple of light primer coats and 2 color coats it's already lost definition. This one I am not so concerned about though because I have PE badges to go on.

Any info/pics would be hugely appreciated, this forum has been an absolutely massive help to me so far, I have learned an incredible amount!

Is the 41 WILLYS COUPE STREET ROD 1:25 REVELL a good kit to buy. I always liked the shape of the Willys coupe but I wanted to know some things about the kit. Some questions:
1. Is the molding accurate
2. Does the kit fit well together
3. Is the kit easy to lower or customise
4. Do the doors open
5. Does the bonnet come off

Thanks,

Photos Here (http://public.fotki.com/ACME-IPMS/acme_sourthern_nati/2009-nnl-southern/)

ACME had what looked like a record attendance and a near-record turnout of 647 models entered into the show! Thanks to everyone who made this another outstanding show; from club members to our guests, many who travel great distances to enjoy the weekend with us. We had 114 different builders from 18 states in attendance. Gregg from Model Cars Magazine flew in from Hawaii, Jim from Scale Auto was there from Wisconsin. Look for coverage in both magazines.

There was also a record turnout of junior modelers and kids in the make 'n take "build a '57 Chevrolet" in the Jonquil room. The kids were all having a blast.

Everyone commented on the astoundingly high quality of models throughout the show; our show is blessed to attract the best of the best and it's clear that the word is out that Atlanta is one of the must-attend shows of the year and continues to grow, the crowds around the tables were thick.

Ours is a modified NNL, with a few more awards than the most traditional NNL's.
