Suggestions For old Chevy Trucks

Hello everybody.
I'm fairly new to this site so my apologies is this is not the correct thread.
I've been hearing a lot lately that old trucks have very simple designs and that
you can make them last forever with little maintenance. I do not know if this is true but it makes sense.
Does anyone know of any extremely reliable Chevys I could look at?
ones without the pesky emissions control lights popping up every second?
I'm on a really limited budget and want to find something under $1500.
Under a grand would be fantastic though. Just something to get to work and an hour trip three times a week.
hope this makes sense.
any response will be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys.

4.3L no spark after engine rebuild

My dad called me this weekend to help him get my brothers jimmy cranked, 1996 GMC Jimmy with 4.3 liter.

Long story short there is no spark from the coil, I tried a coil/ign. module (little black box that is mounted beside the coil) from my tahoe and it didn't spark either, but the one off the jimmy cranked my tahoe.

I checked the red wire (I think) the haynes book says to check on of the wires that go to the coil with the key on and it was hot with the key on.
The only other thing I did was check to make sure the sensor on the bottom of the timing chain cover was plugged in, I assume thats the crankshaft sensor.

Other then replacing the computer what can I do/check????????????????
Because I didn't put the motor in I don't know for sure that there isn't somthing unplugged or missing.

Also the wires that go to the front clip where cut and spliced back together, I don't know where they go, but theres more wires there then just blinkers and headlights.

I forgot to say that the engine has been removed and rebuilt.
This is the first time we have tried to crank it.

Alright, I hope I am posting in the right spot, said non specific chevy. I have an 87 s10, 2.5 inline 4 with a 4 speed manual. From the info I have gathered threw my own searching around, and the gm service reps from a reputable dealer, I believe that I have a T4 borg warner. I was told that a T4 is basicaly a T5 minus the overdrive gear. The motor I found and have yet to purchase, is a rebuilt 3800 series out of a 2000 Firebird. Firebirds and cameros both had the T5 as the manual transmission on the v6 models, so my question is will that motor match up with my trans (T4?) just like the T5, and if not where is a good place to find an adapter kit. The guy that has the motor will sell me all the other components under the hood. I know I am going to have fabricate some things in my truck. My main concern is the engine to trans. Again, thats a 2000 model year firebird 3800 motor, and an 87 s10 2.5 4 speed (is not 4x4):screwy:

I'd like to do an LSx swap at some point, but I thought it would be way more original to do something with the stock 229. Has anyone out there played around with this engine? I'd love to do some sort of turbo setup or something, but I'm having trouble finding any information on upgrading this turd. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Has anyone used a later model TBI engine with electronic ignition with the electronic lockup transmission in an earlier model car. I am planning on using a wrecked 1992 Astro donor car to supply a repower to my 1972 Triumph TR-6, and am curious what kind of electrical issues that I am going to run into. I am planning on using the ECM and wiring harness from he Astro, but I am considering using an aftermarket hot rod wiring kit for this job. Any input would be appreciated. I also am going to have to find some after market gauges, including speedometer that will work with the newer electronics. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Im not 100% sure on this, but im pretty sure that you need to get it coded at the dealer, u need some special piece of equipment to code it the same as the other remotes.

Like I said I am not 100% sure on this, hopefully someone else here can give you a positive answer one way or the other.
welcome to www.voguecatch.com (http://www.voguecatch.com)
