This car has an automatic tranny. When the tranny shifts from 2nd to 3rd at 2800 RPM's there seems to be an extra shift a second later. If I count the shifts from standstill there are 4. That would make it a 5-speed and I don't think it is.

Also I noticed that when coming to a stop, the idle is too high. Once the car stops fully the idle drops to normal. I drove the car at 35 MPH and shifted into neutral. The RPM's are at 1500. If I keep rolling the RPM's stay at 1500 but as soon as I fully stop they drop to around 900.

The engine was replaced a couple months ago and I do not know if it could be a linkage adjustment. Since I do not drive this car much I do not know if these problems existed before the engine swap. Thanks.

This morning got up and started the car to go run some errans. Car started and immediately died. Tried to start back and everything is dead. No lights, horn, clock, radio, nothing. The battery is less than a year old. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but recently I noticed my dashboard lights with a slight flicker every now and then. I had the alternator tested after that happened and it was fine. This is my only car right now. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

02 SC2 - Bogged down/suffocating - ideas welcomed

2002 SC2 Automatic with 93k
Recently, when I try to accelerate at higher speeds, the car just literally “bogs” down and struggles to get moving. At lower speeds its ok – but once I hit about 35 mph or higher, she feels like she’s suffocating.
Weird thing is, it’s not consistent and once it warms up enough, the problem lessens.

So here were my thoughts – first the fuel filter. But at $100+, I wanted to look into a possible cheaper solution.

I had a ’97 SL2 that had one of those infamous cracked ETCS…. Is it possible that Saturn ignored that flaw all the way through 2002, and that could be my issue? BUT I have absolutely no issues with my Temp or coolant level….

I went to the Saturn Dealership and got talking to one of the Techs there. I told him the symptoms and he seemed positive it was the EGR ($140+). He mentioned that the EGR is probably failing, due to the fact my issues begin at 35+ mph.

SO – it seems nothing will be exactly cheap to fix this, but I’d rather get it right the first time, rather than replacing part, after part, after part…

Already done:
Spark plugs
Plug wires
PCV
Air filter
- not a vacuum leak
- NO Service Dash Lights on or Codes coming up!

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time

so my saturn is doin something ive never seen before. i have a 2000 SL2 with the DOHC engine and a 5 speed tranny. i got the car a few months ago and so far i have put it a timing chain, gears, tensioner, and guides. the diff pin went so i managed to get another 5 speed WITH a clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing for 350 bucks. anyways whats goin on now is when i floor the car it runs fine until you get about 4500 rpms then i noticed a power loss, once it hits 5500 the power loss is so noticable that it wont pulls the car past 5500 rpm in any gear. i cant figure it out. i cant remember if it did it before i put the timing chain on, or before i put the trans in. the car runs fine and has plenty of power as long as its below 4000 rpms. I know i put the timing chain in right. how ever wheni was putting the trans in my friend didnt disconnect the speed sensor and may have put the 2 wires in backwards. would that make a difference? im kinda lost here. i definitly dont wanna pull the motor AGAIN. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!!!

Steering wheel / Rotor problem

Hello everyone:

Sorry in advance for the long post

I have a 99 SC1 with almost 200k. Over the last few years it started warping rotors. I would get a steering wheel shake and I'd change the rotors and it would go away. Well it started happening more often than I think it should. The last set of rotors only lasted around 20K, and when I put new ones on, it only lasted a few 1000 miles before the shake came back. Now it's shaking really bad, but I don't want to just keep replacing them.

What could cause the rotors to warp that fast? It is a problem with the breaks or suspension, or a wheel bearing?

I had a panic stop the other day (a cat tried to commit suicide by running out in front of me) and I noticed that one of my front wheels locked up. Could my breaks be applying too hard on that wheel?

1992 Saturn SL
5 speed manual
176,000 miles
exterior in good condition, runs good, cracked windshield
price = $695

I was thinking about picking this up just to dink around with as a cheap car but is it worth the hassle or should I keep my $700 for a rainy day?
