97 Grand Am 3.1 Transmission questions

I read through some of these threads to make sure I don't re-ask a question. Anyways there is about 124,000 miles but only 24,000 on a new engine in my 97 Grand am 4 door 3.1 . Just towed my car to a shop but not sure if Ill get any news till Monday. Theres been no signs of transmission problems up till now. I was at a stop sign, sort of gunned it(not all that much) and it felt like my tires spun on the little bit of gravel, but they didn't spin. I traveled down the road about 1/4 mile, with some sh*tty noise then decided to stop. It seemed like it was driving horribly in drive so I went to third and it was better, when I decided to stop. I got out and shut the car off. Got back in , started it, and wouldn't go anywhere. You could almost feel a slight shift as you shifted from park, reverse, N, drive, third ect. But I wasn't going anywhere- at a stand still. Im bracing for the worst, but if anyone had any insight of my future pain and costs, please reply. Im not too familiar with transmissions, but if it goes it goes im gathering? No just replacing part of it or something to reduce some of the costs? Anyways, thank you for your time in advance. Have a good weekend!

2000 gt idle control/revving by itself

I have a 2000 grand am gt 2 dr with 180k miles, car has been running great until recently. The car will be driving fine, then the engine will start accelerating by itself, usually going up to and staying at 1900 rpms. When I put the car in neutral, the rpms shoot up to 3500 and stay there.

Also, while the engine is revving itself and the car is in drive, pressing the gas will up the rpms and the car will not speed up until I press the gas further down, then the car responds.

I have had trouble finding information on this issue, and while I know the car has quite a few miles, any help on this would be appreciated. I have not minded having to switch between drive - neutral, but I'm sure it will get old quick.

Ok car started fine this morning when i left for work. I come outside 2 hours later to leave and it wont start. I turn the key to run and can hear the fuel pump humming (which was just replaced couple months ago), and there is no security light so its not Passlock problem. Battery and Alternator were also replaced within last year. I can hear the starter motor working also but when I tried starting a couple of times it sounded like it was grinding. Could that be my problem, a bad starter? The car is a 99 GT with 3.4

Please someone help me with this new dilemma with my 2002 Grand Am SE 3.4. I have had the passlock issue before but this is not it because the security light is not on and it has some new problems. When I try to start it it will not turn over, everything else seems normal except there is no door chime, the radio will not turn on (CD goes in and out) just here a noise from the speaker where it is trying to turn on, and the keyless entry will not work from either of my remotes. Everything else seems to work such as lights, trunk release from in the car, door locks from in the car, windows, and so on. I am truly confused and we have checked about every fuse it could possibly be. I have also had issues with the shifting of the car for sometime. It is an automatic and when it shifts into 3rd and 4th the rpms go up and down a few times then it figures it out and goes normal. Once in awhile it will shift really hard and it sounds and feels the the transmission is going to drop right out and I was told to pull it over, shut it off for a minute and then I should be good. This works but what is wrong? I wonder if my computer is just shot, and if this is the case what should I do?:runaround:

Ok, I have wrote about this topic before and have had a few replys but I think I might have found the proble... Car is a 92 SE with the 3.3 V6, 123K miles. What it's doing is sometimes the speedo works for a week then nothing but it will work again you just never know when. The VSS was replaced along with a cluster with only 4K miles on it but still the same. The other day when I hit the cruise the speedo jumped so I think it's in that circut. Shortly after it quit working again and I took my foot and tapped the sound deadener under the steering coluum where the cruise control modual sits and it started to work. I have ordered a new one but want to know what you think.. Could this had been the problem all along??

So i have a dead cylinder. Not sure which one as of yet. I pulled the spark plugs and all looked normal with the exception of one. Three were brown the other didn't...had minimal carbon almost looked newer than the other three...hard to describe. There is no oil/coolant on any of the plugs nor the smell. Thinking it may be bad ignition coil or housing. Is there any way to test the coils on the 2.4L?

:screwy:I have a 01 grand am gt, and the abs, check engine, traction lites come on but not until I turn the wheel.
Historically the car has had the wheel bearings replaced, but dont know which ones for sure. I know gm has had to replace 2 faulty ones under warranty, which is frustrating to me.
Anybody got any ideas.
Thanks

1999 Pontiac Grand Am 3.4 Liter Coolant Problem....

I am hoping to get some help on my Grand Am if anyone has had a similar problem. The problem is I am losing coolant at the tune of about 1/2 gallon a week and cannot find where it is going. I am pretty knowledgeable about cars but this one has me troubled. I know it cannot be blowing by the intake manifold because there is no coolant in the oil (thank God!). It is not leaking on the ground (maybe a little) but nothing significant. In the mornings when it is cold, I see a steam vapor out of the exhaust pipes for about five minutes before it is warmed up, and then it is cleared up. When it is fairly cold out, it starts fine, but spits and sputters like it wants to shut off and idles very rough. Once it is warm, it runs perfectly (with a smell of coolant at times). It cannot be a bad heater core because I am getting toasty hot heat inside and there is no wetness on the floor boards.
I have replaced the thermostat and water pump so far to no avail. Could this coolant be leaking out the exhaust manifold? Or the radiator while driving? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Randy
