I was driving from southern illinioi sto chicago down i-55 and on occasion my 1999 nissan maxima would just die as i am driving, it would start right back up again and then it would die after about 20 minutes , there are no warning lights on or anything. I tried to run it on the scanner but it didnt tell me anything, and i even monitored the 02sensors and all that other stuff.

If anyone can help or give me a suggestion it would be great.

'93 Maxima 196K

So after totaling my buick, I got the hand-me-down maxima from my dad.
Okay, so this car sat for about two years. The timing belt was recently done, and a full tune up was done (despite my dad's friend screwing up the firing order and the motor making a big bang :disappoin).
But anyway, I know for a fact the catalytic converter needs to be replaced, due to the fact that it's glowing red and it smells like burning rubber. The exhaust fumes smells like gas sometimes. The car does idle rough and it is very sluggish accelerating and going up hills. The check engine light has NOT turned on yet...
I do plan on replacing the cat, but what I need to know is what caused the cat to go bad in the first place... I plan on fixing it myself, because I don't have the money to take it to a garage. What should I check/replace? I did notice that the intake manifold is leaking a bit...

Any help is appreciated!

I recently did an alternator on my wife's 01 Max SE (105K miles) I realized while doing this job that a water pump change out in this car must be a nightmere. Does anyone have experience with this or when the time comes just suck it up and bring to $tealer$hip with a wheelbarrow full of money? There are very few threads in this forum covering that job. Do they rarely go bad on a Max?

Just to share a recent inexpensive repair, my wife's 01 Max SE's headlights were severely hazed over from UV/Sun that they appeared yellowish. I bought on of those 3M headlight restorer kits (autozone $20 or Harbor Freight $10) and it worked like a charm, the headlight lenses look brand new and she indicated to me that her ability to see better at night greatly improved. Not actually a gimmick.

2004 maxima rattles on acceleration

I have a 2004 maxima, I have noticed a rattling/buzzing noise when i accelerate from a stop or pulling a hill usually around 1500-2500 rpms, never does it while idling. I would think if it was a timing chain problem it would do it all the time while running. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

2004 Maxima SE, 48K miles.

A SES light came on and it stalled out a few minutes after startup, restarted ok and no issues since. Went to Autozone, pulled code P2135 (TPS Sensor) and took it to dealer (Nooooo!) They say it is the EFI Throttle Chamber i.e. Throttle Body Unit.

Does this sound correct? Anyone had to change out that could give me advice on R&R. Dealer wants 350 for reman. part/labor I found salvage complete unit for 85. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
