hey guys ive popped 3 codes out:

P1507- idle control
P1131/1132 fuel air metering
P0500 speed sensor A.

idle control is a cheap part.

**fuel air metering is about $272- but what are the chances its just a carbon build up and i clean it?

***Also- for the speed sensor A, which sensor is it?
there is one on the rear differential, one on the tranny (both cheap), but the expensive ones are on the front left and right hubs- anyone know how I could find out?

Thanks!

Hi All,

I just bought a 2003 Ford Explorer last night with 73k on a 4.0L Eddie Bauer edition. After driving it around for a little bit, the CEL came on (of course, not during the test drive!). I checked it and the code was P2270 O2 Bank 1 Sensor 2 Signal Stuck Lean. I believe this was right after I filled it up with gas. Anyone have any guidance on this? Should I replace the O2 sensor? If so, which sensor is this? Thank you!

Does anyone know if there is a relay, fuse or circuit breaker for the power windows? If so where are they?

None of the windows work from any door, window lock is off and they all stopped at the same time. Everything else seems to working fine. My owners manual says nothing about fuses or relays or anything. Help would be appreciated.

It's a '99 with the pushrod 4.0L and she's turned beasty since early summer. Started throwing misfire codes for cylinders 1 and sometimes 5. (And a minor evap leak code, but I found a torn vac line that I think took care of that one.) Plugs are one year old and replaced with Motorcraft platinum tipped (also weird - right bank showed normal wear (0.065), but left bank all wide open - like >0.090.) Wires replaced this summer but no help. Then did the coil in July and things were better, for awhile at least. Starting running rough again in October and as I was in Asia my wife took it to the garage. They did all kinds of tests and replaced the coil again. Well, guess what. Running like crap again and I'll check it tomorrow when my daughter comes by from school, but I'll bet it'll be the same two codes.
Anyone have a guess why or what is eating my coil? I really don't want to pay the garage another $300 to do what I did for $75 and have it not work again.
Thanks,
Tim

I have a Ford Explorer Sport, 2wd, V6, 4.0. Had to replace the alternator. Now the only way to start the truck is to push the bypass button located under the steering counsel by the driver door. On top of that, when I open the door, the lights inside and out start blinking on and off, like there's an alarm going off. I was told to pull the fuse and it would stop. No such luck. Only way to get it to stop and start the vehicle is to push the little black button. If that wasn't enough, the battery gauge is barely registering when the truck is running, and its a new battery. Alternator and battery have been checked twice and nothing's wrong. It seems to me, and I've heard the same from a couple different mechanics as well as 4 auto parts stores, that there's a major short in the "alarm". But even after going thru all the joy of doing everything that I was told to do, I'm still having issues. Any body have a clue or suggestions to what the problem could be?

I just noticed my pass. upper ball joint boot has deteriorated. I shot some grease in the boot and wrapped it with the universal duck tape until I can get to the parts store in a few days. Just have one slight problem. The one I have is the two piece type. The one piece that holds the bushings is a bracket, the second piece that holds the ball joint, bolts onto that bracket. I can find the ball joint piece but not the bracket. I would like to change both. Apparently ford over the years has changed the unit to a one piece control arm which looks just like the drivers side. My question is, should I just replace the ball joint piece or should I just remove them both and go with the one piece? Looking for some help.

I wonder if you guys have time to help me install prostart on a 1997 ford explorer xlt 4.0

I'm a little worried to screw things up, but would like to try it out. Basic knowledge about wiring.

I included the links to the prostart model I have. I'm using Haynes as a reference on the ford side.

6-pin Harness:

1. Where do I connect the (green) 5th relay on the 6 pin harness of the RS?

2. The two (red) battery wires go on the two "live" wires in the ignition switch? Can they get switched? What's the different between 12V ad +12V?

3. the (orange) Accessories wire as to go to the blower motor? Or just the accessories in the ignition switch?

12-pin Harness:

1. Where do I connect the disarm(-), rearm(-), unlock(-), and lock(-) on the RS in the vehicle?

5-pin Harness:
1. Which door is the priority door? where do I connect this in the vehicle?

On the link for the Wiring Schematic of the RS, there's an enclosed item for the Optional Starter Kill relay. Where do I connect these?

Also, where should I put relays in? There was one supplied in the kit. Do I need extra relays and wires?

What could be the worst that could happen, let's say I mistakenly switch two wires? What will happen if I leave some not connected.

Finally, how can I test the system without damaging anything, let's say after I believe everything has been connected correctly.

I hope you would find time to help me out here. Thanks in advance.

I have a 96 Ford Explorer that blew out a rear brake line. My SIL was driving it and proceeded to run the master cylinder dry.

I have replaced the brake line and bled the lines, but the pedal is still going to the floor and is very soft. I suspect there is air either in the master cylinder or the ABS system. How do I bleed those?

Thanks,
