no fuel pressure - no rpm

My Windstar 98 3.8L cranks but doesn't start. Just before, the engine shut down suddenly w/o shaking. Then start, but turn off after 1sec. Then crank but doesn't start at all.

I thought that could be the fuel pump. Fuse and relay pump are good. I removed the fuel pressure test port and pressed the pin in the middle of the test point and some gasoline sprayed out. When I turn key to ON, I didn't see much gas spraying out of the port. Even when someone crank it. No pump noise either. I don't have pressure gauge.

I noticed also that when I crank engine, there's no rpm in the dashboard.
Usually when I crank, it's between 400-500 rpm, then jump at 1100rpm when engine start. But now, 0 rpm while it cranks very fast.

So I think it could be the PCM. What I should do? Replace the PCM or the pump?

White smoke on start after sitting for a hour or 2

There is some very good info on this site for diagnosing this problem, but mine seems to be a little different or not completely progressed.

1997 Windstar 3.8, 253,000 miles. Last week it began starting up a little rough cold for the first 30-45 seconds. You can smell antifreeze on startup, but not too bad. Now on the other hand, when it is shut off after driving and re-started about 2-3 hours later it has WAY too much white smoke coming out and tailpipe dripping. No check engine lights, no acceleration or idling problems once it is in motion and warmed up, and no antifreeze in oil. There is some oil in the coolant reservoir, but only enough to turn it dark, nothing substantial. It does take a few revs to get it to idle correctly before take off.

I have yet to pull plugs, but there are no other leaks or issues besides a small tick (that sounds like a lifter) sometimes on a cold start for about 45 seconds and then stops immediately upon warmup.

Any ideas?

While trying to find the cause of a persistent miss I have been looking at my DPFE & EGR functions. My question is why should I diagnose (meter tests) these devices when the PCM supposedly continuously runs tests on them and has seven DTC's for just the DPFE alone? If either device were malfunctioning wouldn't I get a CEL?

Be patient with me; I've got a lot to learn.

Power steering flush Windstar 98 - No place to work

I wanted to flush the power steering system of my Windstar 98 V6 1 gallon today. So I bought 1 gallon ATF-F fluid + the 3/8" out clear hose.

I release the clip of the return line hose.
The problem is that I cannot place my hand to pull the hose down.
There's no place to work here. And I don't have a very large hand, just as average.

I have the big A/C copper hose and pressure line copper hose that block my way. Also another A/C component.

How did you do that? I know many of you have did the work.
I need to remove the A/C hose to do that? I hope not.

Also, I'm afraid if I'm able to remove it but not able to replace it back, cause it's ever more difficult.

I thought about flushing with the turkey baster as alternative option. The problem is that mine is only 1 1/2 ouce. I cannot find bigger size. I'll waste too much fluid and take too much time.

I like the Windstar 98, but it's so hard to work on it, not enough place. 2 weeks ago, I rush a lot to install the belt and release the tensioner.

I installed the new coil purchased through Amazon. Fit well. No issues there. Unfortunately Windy is still bucking/missing when slowly accelerating from low speed and low RPM while in 3rd or 4th gear.

To date I have installed new wires (plugs have about 25,000 on them), new DPFE, new coil, 2 cans of Berryman's in the past 12 months, checked EGR function, cleaned EGR ports, and I have checked for vacuum leaks as best I can. Windy has 138,000 miles on her.

Unless someone chimes in my next plan of attack is:
- re-check the function of the DPFE
- new Autolite 105 style plugs that are supposed to be a bit longer than the 700 series I now have installed
- remove injectors for inspection or cleaning
- check fuel pressure
- install new fuel filter (current one has 15,000 on it)

Thanks to anyone who offered help previously.

Anyone ever dealt with the interior lights blinking on and off? Mine will do it, driving down the road or sitting still.

Now the weird part is, I can hit the steering wheel and they will stop. This is the courtesy lights only. No dash lights affected.

Any thoughts?

2002 windstar 3.8l. I have combed through all these forums trying everything listed and would apreciate some guidance. I was getting code p0401 for the longest time, i replaced the egr valve but it didnt change the code, so i figured it was the sensor. just recently the check engine light started blinking and the van was missing. First thing I did was change spark plugs and wires, no help. I then took apart the intake manifold and cleaned the egr ports which were dirty but not completely clogged, no change. I switched out #4 and 5 fuel injectors, no change. just today i switched the 4 and 5 wires at the coil and got p0304 and p0305. any thoughts on what i do know would be appreciated.
