I've got a chance to get a duratec engine out of a 98 taurus to put in a 99 taurus dirt cheap, only problem is the 98 which the engine would come out of has a computer key to start it and the person that has it doe NOT have the key only a dummy key so he can't start it. ANyone know how I can get the engine started so I can hear it run before buying and going thru all the work of swapping engines??? I don't want to swap engines and then find out this also has a problem.

thanks for any advice

ok my dad has this 93 Taurus. with the 3.0 V-6 and an automatic. i never really work on automatics so that's why i'm asking. when the transmission is below normal operating temp(like right after you start it) it's fine but when you get to normal operating temp after driving it awhile it'll slip out of gear then go back in and hop. and then coming to a stop it'll slip completely out of gear and you have to put it in reverse at a complete stop, wait for it to go into gear then put it in drive and go. this happens everytime you come to a full stop. i'm not sure what it could be. we ran a snap-on scanner on the car to try to get a diagnosis and it says the speed sensor but i'm wondering if it could be an internal problem? and my dad's flushed the trans and refilled it. and we've tried everything short of an overhaul. but there's supposed to be 2 speed sensors on the particular trans. and he has not changed them because the scan tool does not say which one is bad. just that there's an error. anyways i'd really appreciate any tips or advice you may have.

thanks Ian

About 2 years ago, when I bought my Taurus, the AC worked perfect. Then after a while it only worked on full blast. Then it started to work occasionally. Then it quit working, but if I kicked the interior floor panel, it would turn on and run fine until the engine was turned off. Now it wont do anything. The heat and front defrost doesnt work either, but the rear defrost works great. However, when I turn the ac switch on, my ac line has a frost on it in the engine, so I'm thinking that the problem isn't with my compressor. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello all. 99 Taurus rear strut R/R. Pinch bolt on the right rear snapped off dangit, and I was trying to be careful. Anyhow I'm going to just remove the knuckle and all and put it on the workbench. A couple questions 1) Do I need cobalt bits to drill out the rest of the bolt? 2) What sizes work best? 3) Whats the best way to plug the brake line to keep all the fluid from running out? Thanks in advance. :banghead:

WOW!
$265 for towing + storage, because daughter had her car parked @ a store!

1) We paid $265 ransom, but the car wouldn't start.

Himmmm!
Did this car run out of gas, or was the car sabotage?

2) Checked the fuel rail, and there was no fuel.
3) Rolled the fuse, and fuel pump relay for the fuel pump, and put 2-gals of gas.

$256 (Towing) + GAS + TIME = $500 , because her car was out fuel.

Bingo!

The fuel rail was empty, the car didn't even fire, I really think she ran the car out of fuel.

It could of been another $500, if she got bad service at a local service station, they would of replaced a good fuel pump, that isn't bad.

Picture a $1000 hussel for just running out of fuel.

I have possibly found a duratec engine out of a 98 taurus to swap into the 99 taurus. The question I have is that the donor car has a chipped key for the ignition, would this have any affect on the engine swap??? I am thinking no since the chipped key would be related to the security system, am I thinking correctly. I possibly could get the engine wiring harness if need be with it.

any thoughts, I have not worked on taurus before so any advice is greatly appreciated.

My daughter has a 2004 Taurus and the rear brake on the passenger side will not bleed (always blows air and fluid). The drivers side will bleed but the cylinder keeps coming apart from pressure. I tried bleeding the front and they will not bleed either. Can this be the protportioning valve or the booster? Any suggestions?

95 Sable, 3.0, dont know what trans. Runs good for the miles on it 212K, dont know how old trans is. Basically it shifts good up to the shift from 2 to 3, then the shift is so long the RPM's rev too high. Eventually it does go into 3rd. Getting on the xway is tough because the shift is soo late. And of course when it does shift to 3rd it kind of shifts hard.
I have been just holding the car and now must decide to scrap or fix. Doubt anyone would buy a car with those miles and a bad trans. I cant lie about it either and just sell to someone. So I would like some opinions from anyone with trans experience.

When the accelerator is depressed at all, the transmission shifts fine. When releasing the accelerator, the transmission sticks in gear for a good two to three solid seconds. (This seems to be worst in second.) This feels like releasing the accelerator in a vehicle with a standard transmission without clutching. After the two or three seconds, it finally upshifts.

The Taurus Car Club forum was/is useless. I posted multiple questions there and the only response I got to any of them was a moderator correcting what model transmission I *really* meant to reference. However, I've had good experience here and hope someone can answer this question for me. (Should have just come here in the first place. :D )

1998 Ford Taurus Sedan / Noisy Lifters

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus sedan with a 3.0 liter motor. I recently noticed a loud ticking noise at startup which sometimes after driving will stop. I think the noise is a single lifter or possibly more. I added 1/2 a bottle of Sea Foam to the crankcase drove for 25 miles and then changed the oil. I used a Bosch filter and 10W-30 Castrol. When I cranked the car after the oil change the lifter ticked for 2 or 3 seconds then stopped and the motor sounded great. This is my daughters vehicle so I asked her the next day if the motor was still making the ticking noise. She told me that it would make the noise for 2-3 seconds then stop and run fine. I just went outside and started the car after it had been sitting idle for 3-4 hours and the ticking noise was back. I let the car idle for several minutes and even revved the engine several times but could still here the ticking sound. Does anyone have any suggestions? Not looking forward to the possibilty of replacing the lifters.
Thanks !!!!!!
