I just recently had a tune up on my car and now for some reason when I go to start my car it will not stay on unless I keep my foot on the gas for like 30 seconds and then I let go and it idles a little low but when I take off and come to a stop my car wants to die out on me and as I stop completely it idles up real fast then chills at a low idle. I am not one for spending 120 an hour to get my car checked out when it could be something simple.

Thanks also for the help in advance :)

Starter problem 99 neon

ok like i said i got a 99 neon 2.0 dohc and the starter has been acting up i pulled the starter to have it checked and it checks out fine. now the problem it doesn't make a grinding noise when trying to start it it just spins over like the solenoid isnt kicking it out but i can see it is teeth on the flex plate are still square none missing then i tried to take a jumper wire from the battery to the unplugged solenoid to turn it on directly but it still does the same thing however by tapping on the solenoid once in a while it will start the car. the starter will also turn the motor over but then it kicks out after a second or so. Also there is a new battery in it. i got 12.3v at the starter. WTF is going on the spacer plate inbetween the motor and tranny is still there could it be that it might be pushed in to far and the starter is going past the flexplate? i really dont know i pulled that starter out 3 times now and bench tested it and it works like it is suppose to. please help before i take my 12 gauge after it :sarcasmsign: then maybe the deer rifle.

Is it possible???

Ok ... I've finally gotten the time to tear into the engine bay to remove the head with the broken plug in the #3 cylinder and I'll send it to the machine shop to have it removed and checked for cracks and .... well some other things. :naughty: When I removed the intake and such, I noticed the casting date on the block reads 6/9/95. Now .. that's not the only thing I noticed. There are two emissions stickers under the hood. One (96 emission sticker and vacuum schematic) is over the top of the another. The car was built in 95 and sold as a 96. Could it be possible that this car has the 95 engine and "hot" cam in it? The other question I have is, how far can I have the head shaved and still be safe with the valve clearance? The head will be off tomorrow and on it's way for a good valve job and some upgrades and I'll be ordering a new header and a GOOD head gasket kit. :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: (I found a nice oil leak coming from the rear of the head gasket on this one so I guess it was time to replace it anyways.)

Here's some photo's for you to take a look at. I should have done before and after on my $200 Neon!! ....
