P0108 Map Sensor; Running Rough, Stuttering

2001 T&C EX 3.8: 108,000 miles, started running very rough at all RPMs, nearly stalling at idle - threw a P0172, system too rich.
- Cleaned intake, checked vacuum hoses, sprayed brake cleaner looking for leaks, it seemed to accelerate slightly while spraying at the connection of the pipe from the EGR to the Manifold; repaired the gasket; resolved.
- Manual/visually check wiring.
- (O2 sensor (forward) replaced at 100,000)
- Disconnected negative battery terminal for an hour to clear PCM history.
- Now it throws a P0108, Map Sensor, and after warming up, it would not want to idle less than 1800, all while still running rough.
- In addition, at times it would run perfectly for 5-10 miles, then suddenly stutter for no apparent reason.
- Also, under full acceleration, it would hit 4500rpm & then roll back and cycle rapidly between 3500 & 4500.

Replaced the MAP sensor (I'm a DIYer, even though I know swapping parts just because for a code doesn't necessarily mean the part is bad)
- Helped the idle rpm problem, and thought everything was resolved, except everytime I clear the P0108 code with my OBDII reader, it starts running again, throws the code, and on the next re-start it would settle back down again and run pretty good. Why would clearing the code somehow make it take a step backwards?
- Now on the next 10mi jaunt just when I think everything is running well (even though the CEL is still on) it starts stuttering again at about 60mph. It won't stutter if accelerated firmly, but if accelerating slightly or decellerating slightly, it stutters badly.

- Just for "fun", thinking perhaps the IAC is fouling and "spoiling" the vacuum (hence the P0108 Map Sensor code)?, I pulled the IAC & cleaned it; cleaned throttle intake while I was at it.
- On restart, the engine died at first, but then on second attempt (with a little gas), it held idle, and continued idling smooth. Could I have solved it by cleaning the IAC? (I thought).
- Erased the P0108 code with the OBDII reader.
- BAM, right back to where I started where it will not hold idle without throttling the accelerator.

Can't seem to get anywhere with clearing the code, and stopping the inconsistent rough running and stuttering. Ideas?

Allright, i got this van with a blowed up 3.3 engine. Threw a rod but still ran. Sounded good other than the knock. Bought a junkyard engine with 100,000 K on it supposedly out of a 2001 town and country. It won't start. No codes. On initial cranking each time will fire the front plug a couple times then quit. A buddy connected his $12,000.00 snap on scanner to it and can make the pcm fire each coil pack, so I'm assuming communication between pcm and coil pack is good. The one thing that's goofy is that as the engine cranks, the scan tool shows the cam sensor and the crank sensor get out of sync. I'm assuming that's where the loss of spark is happening. I used the original flywheel, put in a new crank sensor and inspected the cam sensor( also the original one that came out of the running van). Checked all grounds. I'm pulling my hair out. Anybody got any ideas?

OK, I'm driving down the road and I notice the SEL, must have JUST come on. My guess is that it's the EGR code I got a few weeks ago. I continue driving no more than 1 minute and tranny acts like it's in neutral. I coast to a stop, shut the engine off then restart and it goes into gear like normal. I think, "OK, I'll 'Limp home'." But to my surprise the tranny shifts fine to all gears all the way home, up and down hills, but the SEL is still on. Once I get home I do the "Key Dance" and get 12, 45, 55. I don't know why I get 12, because the battery has not been disconnected, just drained a few weeks ago, but that should have been more than 50 cycles, as often as I drive this thing. 45 Translates to P0700, EATX Controller DTC Present. I know that 55 is end of codes.

Does anyone have any idea where I could begin? Tomorrow I'll borrow an OBDII reader to see if this can narrow things down a bit.

The van is a 97 GV, 3.3L

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1997 model caravan that will not start.

It doesn't have much gas in the tank. I added another gallon tonight and some "heet" to remove any moisture if it's causing it not to fire. I've already replaced the fuel filter and I put in a new fuel pump. I've charged the battery. It cranks, but the engine does not fire. Maybe I didn't put the fuel pump in right? If so, what are some common problems with putting fuel pumps in? This is my first time putting in a fuel pump and it seemed easy, but maybe I missed something..

This is one conveluted problem and eventual fix for a PRNDL and odometer indication blanking problem on a 99 Caravan. The fascinating part is the source of the problem. At least initially you would never concider it. A great example of the headaches the CCD/PCI data bus can cause. http://www.trnw.net/tour-forum1.html

I have a good friend that owns a 2002 dodge caravan. I know it has the 3.0 in it but not much else. Couple of weeks ago it started to run like crap, then it died on the side of the road and would not start. We replaced the wires and plugs ( they were toast ). I thought that was the problem. Nope, still no start. I loaned him my scanner and it pulled out three codes: P0108, P1297, and P0303. We know the P0303 is misfire, that was probably due to the wires and plugs. One was for the MAP sensor, so we replaced it. After that it started up, but still runs like crap. He does have enough money to start replacing parts and I have no idea were to start. If anyone can help.
