Ferrari 248 F1 Fujimi (Extreme Detailed!)

This will be my next extreme detailed project. Building the final battle F1 car of Michael Schumacher in detail has always been my dream for sometime. and finally after an excellent shopping trip in Hong Kong, I got myself two Fujimi 248 F1 kits! But i am gonna keep one for spare or future build. Initially i was deciding whether should i have a dual build along side with the new F2007 by Fujimi as well, but finally made up my mind just to concentrate on just 248 F1. This will really take some time, so guys please bear with my extreme slow progress as well. Right now im still collecting all inaccuracies or absent detail area information but nevertheless i did open up the kits started very very slightly....

Image: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/5815/dsc02487q.jpg

Firstly, realizing the cowling is molded together as one piece with the rest of body, i cut it out using knife and saw.
Image: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/996/dsc02495f.jpg

From this point onwards, to my much alarm, everything is wrong, there should be 5 opening vents instead of 6 on the left sidepod. The angle, size, distance between vents are wrong as well! Oh man, i guess this gonna take me a lot of effort. I must have the determination to correct this.

Image: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/8450/dsc02504xu.jpg

Vents are opened here as well with some digging and sanding

This is a Polar Lights Mustang funny car kit that I hope to make into the Blue Max car (as long as the decals lay down over that front hood bulge? If anyone has built this with the white decal stripe for the hood I would love to hear how it went, please respond) I have this in the white glue/mock-up stage now after working out thing like wheelbase adjustment for the Mustang body to get the front wheels somewhat centered in the wheel wells, added sheet plastic to the tin work above the injector hat so it will mate up to back of windshield. etc. etc. Now it’s time to soak this in the warm bucket of water to break it all down and start building the real thing. Thanks for looking!

Tamiya Ferrari FXX Wip

Hi all, this will be a WIP thread for my Tamiya Ferrari FXX. I will be using the SMS superkit to make the carbon-fiber version, and will eventually be making door decals with numbers for this thing too.

I have a Tamiya Enzo that a friend messed up, which I am using for fitting all my custom parts and etc, so everything works out nicely.

To start, I got to work with the LED lights which I plan on installing:

1. Glued up the hood/fenders/front clip.
2. Cut open the hood.
Image: http://images49.fotki.com/v1520/photos/1/1591111/8150308/2_hoodcutopen-vi.jpg

3. Prototyped my LED circuit on the breadboard (day and night pics)

Image: http://images52.fotki.com/v729/photos/1/1591111/8150308/3_circuit1-vi.jpg
Image: http://images52.fotki.com/v726/photos/1/1591111/8150308/4_circuit2-vi.jpg

4. Soldered up the circuit on some perfboard. You will see I'm using 3mm white LEDs in front and 1.8mm red LEDs in the back for the FXX's tiny rear lights. I have blacked out all but the tips of the rear LEDs to reduce the amount of diffusion the light has. Resistors were placed inline on the red LED wiring to reduce the space taken up on the perfboard, and it is all powered by a 3V coincell battery. Hot glue is a nice dielectric so I used a the glue gun a bit to hold everything in place, and make it all nice and neat, as well as liberal heat shrinking. I will be routing the wires to the rear lights through the tunnel in the floor, then under the engine and up to the rear lights. This is my first attempt at lighting so take it easy on me :runaround:

Image: http://images52.fotki.com/v638/photos/1/1591111/8150308/5_circuitbuild-vi.jpg

Up next: I will be fitting this inside the hood section of the messed up Enzo and building a plastic cover that replicates the underhood of an FXX. I have nice reference pictures, so it should be no problem. Will also be grinding down the switch tab so it doesn't stick up so far.

Hi everybody!

I wonder if anyone out there, know's where I could find some good reference pictures of the McLaren MP4/5b? There's another thread on this forum about the MP4/5b, with a link to a site http://www.huudo.com/ref.shtml, but that's a dead end. So any weblink or book link, is much appreciated.

Regards,

My latest work, Tamiya's Peugeot 307 WRC. Paint on the body is Duplicolor DSC351 Flash Red, the white stripes are Krylon airbrushed over the red. The kit has decals for the stripes but paint is more solid looking. I will be using aftermarket tobacco markings by Tabu design, they specialize in nothing but tobacco markings. Various manufacturers composite decals were used.

This is the second part of a project I had planned for this year – The cars that Jim Clark would have driven to the track and on the track in 1962. The Elan has been completed (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=962455) already.

The ‘62 car was somewhat different from the famous championship winning ’63 car that is the base for the Tamiya kit but I will restricting modifications to the most visually obvious: no yellow stripe, different windshield etc. (lazy, I know… ;) )

I have borrowed heavily on SeanyG’s shared experience in his build (thanks, Sean!) but hopefully I will also add some thoughts of my own to the subject.

I started with the engine block which was drilled out, painted and washed.

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_12.jpg

And then metal bolts from RB Motion and Scale Hardware were attached.

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_21.jpg

The body was painted with Tamiya TS paint through my airbrush. Unfortunately, I got quite bad orange peel which was wet sanded out with 1200 grit and micromesh.

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_13.jpg

British GP decals from F1 Specialties were then applied.

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_40.jpg

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_41.jpg

Wheels have been painted and detailed with air valves from Aber (excellent BTW).

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/L25_10.jpg

However I am planning for this car to be displayed open on stands. Something like this….

Image: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/LOTUS%2025/dio_03.jpg

Kit rotors are being replaced with white metal alternatives from the Thunder Valley transkit which were drilled out to accept some bolts.

Thanks for looking

Hey guys, my first wip on this forum. This thread is already on spc, so don't worry if you think I'm plagiarizing someone else.

Alec Tiranti post things quickly, as in: 21hrs.

First thing, build up where the mould halves will sit, this takes a LOT longer then you'd imagine.

Image: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/sky-rail/IMG_4174.jpg
building it up so you only get one half of the mould

Image: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/sky-rail/IMG_4175.jpg
In the mould former, putting a seam around the base of the model to prevent leakage

Mixing up the rubber with the hardener. The hardener smells really nice, like a fine south American lager, such as Brahma... which is what I'm drinking right now

Image: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/sky-rail/IMG_4180.jpg
pouring the rubber on from a height removes most of the air bubbles, as a posed to a vacuum chamber and vacuum pump for £90 hire or £500 to buy.

And here it is curing.
