I have a 1994 s10 2.5l 5speed. It starts great and runs great...but..drive a short distance, push the clutch in and the engine stalls. Turn the key immediately and it starts right back up and idles fine. Fuel pressure is fine even after stalling, changed MAS,TPS, EGR ,O2 sensor...etc..and scanner shows all inputs fine..
This one got me stumped and would appreciate any help.

thanks....wayne

Hey guys,
1997 s10 2.2L with 113k miles on engine. I bought the truck with a blown timing chain. Replaced that. still wouldn't run. Got a newer head with only a couple thousand miles on her and put on a new head gasket. Truck hasn't been driven due to not being registerd yet, but ran it a couple of time to see if it would spit some dtc codes before getting an inspection. Came up with randome misfire P0300. Changed the ignition module, still same dtc. Anyways I popped the oil dipstick off while it was idleing and smoke came billowing out. Not to mention some smoke out of tail pipe with small moisture puddle on ground. I checked the oil and it seemed uncommonly thin. So I drained it out and it was stupid thin. It was new oil and ran for maybe 15 mins. So thinking maybe some throttle body cleaner thinned it out i changed it again. Still smoking out of oil filler tube. Did i do a bad head gasket installation or does this sound like a cracked head or block? When the oil was drained it was just thin. No coolant or moisture sitting on top of the oil. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated. Thanks

I have a 1997 extended cab S-10 with a 4.3 and a 5 sp. I had a fuel pump issue so i gave a tune up....plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. It didnt help..non of it. so i put a uel pump in the truck. worked awsome for a few days. then my "check engine soon" light came on and the truck started doing alot of jerking and seemed to be misfiring. I checked wires and some were in poor shape so i replaced them. 85 % improvement for a few miles then back to jerking and misfiring. it wasnt so bad so we drove it for about two weeks then one day a block from leaving the house.....no rev over 2500RPM complete loss of power and once back in driveway and shut off no start. I bought a code reader and it told me cly. 3 misfire and overheated cats. i pulled #3 plug wire looked fine. i pulled #3 plug and the gap was at a big fat 0 copletely bent shut.

Now my question is -what is the effect of a plug being closed off like that and all the fuel being dumped into the exhaust sy.--- and why wont it start????????????

As the title states, I have an 87 s10. It is 2 wheel drive, with a 4 speed manual, I believe it is the borg warner 4speed, T- 10 I believe, correct me if I am wrong. I am having engine trouble and considering swaping, and I'd rather go to a 6 cylinder or more likely a small block v8. I called a trans shop and they said the trans thats on my truck would have no problem with the extra horsies under the hood. If that is correct, I want to know if anyone knows whats a good motor, more by the amount of time and work involved, to put in. I know its going to be a hell of alot of work, but what I am looking for is more, what motor will bolt right up to that trans without to much custom fabrication on my part, aside from motor mounts and everything else under the hood. Carb most likely was my original idea. Unless I get lucky and my dad decides to not replace the trans in my sisters suburban, in that case I'll pull her 350 motor and computer and fabricated the hell out of everything to jam it under my hood. Any thoughts or words of advice would be much appreciated, one thing I have to say, it has be a general motors product. Moneys tight, but I am going to do this right.

I have a 1987 Chevrolet S-10. It has the 2.5 inline 4 cylinder, with a 4 speed manual transmission. Its a truck I am in the process of rebuilding, and a learning process in and of its own. I replaced the valve cover gasket, put in new plugs, distributor and rotor. The timing was way off when I bought the truck, it was at 0 degree BTC, its supposed to be at 8 degree BTC. I just got it back from the shop where I had timing done. The timing in and of itself seams to be fine, however, the engine does not idle properly, fluctuates heavily. Motor will stall out, I dont really drive it. I'm trying to figure out if the motor is junk, if I need to have it rebuilt or swapped. It runs weak, and not having a tachometer in the vehicle I dont know if its just an old loud engine with a slipping clutch. I guess perhaps I'll just drive it and see, the last time I did a clutch it went from fine to gone in three days, 70 miles. I doubt this beast will make it to 55 mph. I am at a loss, I just want to find the problem, fix it, so I can finnish with the rest of my cosmetic repairs. I have replaced front calipers, rear drums shoes hardware kit, all break lines, only thing in the break system left is master cylinder and break booster. New shocks. Its ugly, I just cant seam to figure out why its running weak. Trans feels good, but with as little power going to it who knows at this point. Any help would be much appreciated.:smokin:

I am getting ready to have a good winter by swaping a 350 tuned port injection motor with a 700r4 out of a 1987 Trans Am GTA into my 95 s10. I have been told that the column shifter linkage will cause issues with running headers, True??? I need to convert to floor shift? I hope not. I like the kits sold on s10v8.com but i dont feel like wasting my money on parts that wont work. I need to purchase motor mounts, headers, radiator, fans, i dont think i need an oil pan the one on the motor should work, maybe a painless harness?? the budget will decide that. I am planning on putting a 98 or newer front end on her too, I need to swap out the entire core support right? I am looking forward to doing this with a good friend who has done this swap twice before but both were the 93 and older bodies. I will post some pics if peopke are interested. Thanx! :evillol:

Caliper replacement - Leaking

95 S10 2WD Pickup 2.2 238,000

I am changing calipers because I changed pads a couple of months back and the pistons did not move well at all. I thought the truck was pulling to the right a little when I braked, and with recent rains, I have been having one tire lockup while the other is still rolling. Not too safe, and winter is coming.

So, I replaced front driver side brake caliper last night, and I think it has a slow leak where the brake line connects to the caliper. I used the new washers that came with the caliper, but I accidentally left one of the old washers on the bolt the first time. It was leaking so I took it apart and used two new washers and torqued it to 32 ft lbs. I wiped everything clean after bleeding and put some newspaper down. this morning I found a spot on the paper about the size of a 50 cent piece. What should I do? Tighten it some more? DO I need new washers, and fi so what do I do different? Also, Autozone wants 99 cents per washer! A buddy of mine who used to be a mechanic said he always used the old ones without a problem.

I have to change the other caliper tonight, and I used the washers that came with it on the other caliper, so if I shouldn't use the old ones I might have to break down and buy at least 2, maybe 4, if I need to use new ones on the one that is leaking also.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
