Hello,

My 06 Impala battery went dead and oce dead the OnStar backup battery kicked in to keep the OnStar system alive. The battery was replaced in the car and then the OnStar light was red. I called OnStar and it was reported that the battery was dead for the above reason and I have to replace it.

Does anyone know how much this battery is and is it user replaceable, or do I need to bring it to the dealer for this?

Thanks, Tom

2003 Impala Code p0404

My Chevy began hesitating when taking off and when driving straight runs you can feel the car jolting a bit. The check engine light comes on intermittently. Took it to have the check engine light checked and it came back a p0404 code. The kid at the mechanic shop said it was the egr valve and to replace it was a bit over 300. I thought it sounded high so I declined to have it ficed just then as I wanted to look up this issue. After reading many items it says this could be multiple issues including an o2 sensor. What is the best way to troubleshoot this issue to narrow it down? It just recently failed inspection for the code p0404 as well. Money is very tight right now and I cant afford to pay 300 and to not have it resolved the issue.

2001 Impala BCM replacement adventure

New to the forums, tons of good information here thought I'd share my experience. Hopefully this may help someone else with these type of problems.

Here is my 01 Impala BCM replacement adventure:

About a month ago the power door locks stopped working. Upon investigation I found that the BCM controls them and it might be the culprit.
Didn’t go any further, but as time went on the HVAC blower would decide to work whenever it wanted to , rear window defogger stopped working and, until last week the dash lights for the ABS, air bag and brakes would randomly go on and when I would use the directional’s I just hear a buzzing sound.
Ordered a new AC Delco BCM from Rock Auto, $145.00. In the meantime starting problems occurred, never had a security light problem though. Sometimes the car would start no problem, other times had to keep trying for 10 minutes or so.
BCM arrived last Thursday, pulled the old one out plugged in the new one and performed the Passlock relearn procedure, car now starts everytime, everything else came back to life.
Only issue was the airbag warning light stayed on and the radio displayed LOCKED and didn’t play. I knew I had to go to the dealer and get the BCM programmed to the car so that’s what I did. A half hour and $85 later all problems solved.
Total cost $230 and a few hours work. Would have been less time but I figured since I was at it I would pull out the ignition switch assembly and clean the 5 contacts at the rear, 2 had heavy carbon deposits on them.
Hopefully everything will be OK for a while (or more), keeping my fingers crossed

Engine/Trans Date Codes

Wondering if there is an easy way to tell what year a 3.4 engine was made-----and what year tranny is attached to it. (so I can see if an engine swap will work)

I have on 03 Impala---and the engine in the car has an 03 stamped into the intake casting, right in front of the throttle body. I have another engine, which may be out of an 2000 Impala that has an 00 stamped in that same place in the intake. Is that how I tell what year these engines are---or is there a serial # I should look for?

And on the transmission, (same car) there is a white plastic tag attached on the passenger rear of the trans, with the following code: 611RDBW125J. Does that tag and code allow me to determine when the trans was built?

Any and all advice would be great. Thx
