rear exhaust manifold cracked again

The rear exhaust manifold on my 96 Chevy Ilumina(3.1) has cracked 3 times in the last 2 years. I think it had a small crack when I bought the car 2 years ago but it has cracked twice since then. I tried real hard to make sure I put the 2nd one on correctly but it still cracked the other day. I am wondering if the material their building the manifolds with is good solid material? The 1st one that cracked should have been the orignal but the last two I got from a national parts store. They gave me the 2nd one free and this one will be also, but it's sort of a pain in the butt to change them every 6 or 8 months. I guess I do have the tilting the motor thing down by now but it's still tough to put on the rear manifold. Do you have any suggestions or comments about this matter?

1995 Lumina Brake Stop Lights don't work

My two stop lights at the back don't come on when I am braking. I changed the lamps also. The one in the back window works fine. It has to do something with the turn signal switch. If I put my foot on the brake pedal the lights are not on. If I keep depressing the brake pedal and move the turn signal slightly the lights come on. Then the lights work briefly and as soon as I start using the turn signal the lights don't work again. Some bad connection there.

So my question is that how do I get inside the steering column to may be change the switch.?

Dented oil pan....help, please. 93... 3.1...lumina

Ok....just as the title says...i had a buddy of mine helping me with my strut replacement.....and he jacked the car up ON THE FRIGGIN OIL PAN...

I used the search button but could not find a link to a picture of where the pickup is on my 1993 3.1l lumina.

My current plan is to mig weld a bolt onto the oil pan and use a slide hammer to significantly lessen the dent.

Will this work?

Where is the pickup located?

Is there any way to swap oil pans without pulling the engine (i dont have the provisions for this job)?

Thank you for your time,

john ny

95 Lumina - Repetitive squeak

Sometimes when I drive, there is a repetitive squeaking, and then when I apply the break it goes away.

New pad time?

Also, my fuel gauge moves a lot. If I fill the tank to around 1/2, it will move from just above 1/2 down to 1/4, and in-between as I drive.
Is this something I can fix? What's going on?

And lastly, does anybody know the location of the EGR valve on a 95 Lumina?
I want to take a look before I go to smog it tomorrow.

I recently had to get my 97' lumina state inspected to get new tags. Durring the inspection the guy told me that there was a leak coming from where the brake hose fitting goes into the caliper on the front drivers side. He told me that the copper washers on either side of the banjo bolt could be worn out, and that i should try to replace them. My question is does this sound like the cause of the leak. I just don't see how the copper washers could just "go bad" if nothing had been done to the brakes in the past. Any experiences or expertise on this subject would help greatly!

So the title only explains one issue with this car (98 lumina 3100 v6) it accelerates very slowly. I floored it thinking it might go just a bit faster but no change. what's odd is the rpms didnt revv high either. I also noticed that around 3000 rpms the airbag and voltage light come on the dash. whats up with that? Are these problems related? also the ani-lock light comes on after a minute or two. Why?:screwy:

Poor Gas Mileage

I have a 1995 Lumina with a 3.1 and I am getting really bad gas mileage around 12 mpg. I have asked several mechanics and they have said that is the O2 sensor. I have replaced this and it did improve the mpg slightly but it is still not the 29 it used to get. I have also replaced the knock sensor, and the throttle posistion sensor. What else could cause this drastic loss in gas mileage?

Thank you,

misfire at 2000 rpm and above

1998 3.1 lumina has a misfire at 2000 rpm and above.
Recently did
lower and unpper intake gaskets
middle ignition coil pack
cam sensor
champion double plainum plugs
motorcraft wire set
Cleaned throttle body
a set of used injectors from salvage yard
thermostat

Started car after above work was completed. Car ran rough at idle
check engine light came started flashing for 30 seconds then went solid. Continued let car run and purge of air in coolant loop.
Turned off after it reached OT
Pulled negative battery cable. Codes came back.
Pulled neg cable again and checked all sensor connections.
Codes came back
Pulled neg cable and undid two large pin connectors near altenator and re connected
Car ran great at idle and no codes
Ran down 25 mph street ran great
35 mph street started to stumble a bit
50 mph road chugging type misfire, lack of power when pedal mashed
When you let up on the pedal during a misfire or chugging episode the car smooths out with some power but when you accelerate especially up a hill this load makes the misfire show up more.
There are no cades at this time
When I had codes they were P0101 MAF and P0300 random misfire
I rechecked spark at each wire at the coils and a good hot spark is present

Any ideas? Thanks

Broken manifold vacuum port 3.1 L

Hello all. I am finishing up my 1998 lumina 3.1L lower and upper gasket set. I purchased the fel-pro kit at advance auto (http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=118263&st=0#) with all the needed gaskets. Also got new injector orings, fuel (http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=118263&st=0#) line orings, thermostat, upper lower hoses, heater core quick disconnect and so on....

I have enjoyed the project and appreciate the help I got from this site. Our mechanic quoted $1673.00 for the job. He recommended that I junk the car (http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=118263&st=0#). This is my sons car by the way.The car had other issues like #2 and #4 fuel injector bad. Cam sensor cracked and defective. #3 and #4 spark plug wires open.

So I have invested $330 so far and I am ready to start her up. BUT I found a broken vacuum port on the upper aluminum manifold front drivers side near the pcv.

Now this port is sheared clean off. I was saddened as the excitement of the completion and start up slowly sank like a tropical sunset.

Here is a pic of a 3.4 with the same port that is broken on my 3.1 for illustration purpose.

Does anyone have a fix for this port that they can share other than get a new upper manifold from the salvage yard. I'm so close but yet so far away.
Thanks

hello I have a 98 lumina 3.8. I've had this problem for a while now and cant figure it out. I have the following trouble codes p0102, p0171, p0452. I start the car and let it just idle in my driveway, it runs fine for 6-8 minutes then the idle drops momentarily then kicks up, and after repeating this a few time the engine stalls. From a cold start while driving the vehcle it usually runs fine the first few miles. however while accelerating it will studder for a split second usually above 2500 rpm it doesnt do it every time while accelerating, but does it frequently. After the car has driven a good distance it may die out at a light, while accelerating, or while at cruising speed it runs fine but just dies out, starts back up fine but may die out instantly again or a few minutes later. I replaced the fuel pump a few months back along with the fuel filter, cleaned the maf sensor and checked all over for vacumn leaks with no signs of any. someone please help:banghead:

i have a 96 lumina with a 3.1 motor, when i start the car or when i open any door their is a clicking on - off, on -off ( kinda sounds like the blinker relay ) and i swear it feels like the relay is under my left foot! it runs for about 1-2 minutes then stops by itself. but it is deffinatley NOT the blinker and as it clicks the dome light flashes in the same rythem as the blinking sound...it does it EVERY time i start the car or open the door with the key in the "run" position... also the "anti lock brake" light is on in the dash. could this be linked to the abs somehow? is it letting me know their is a problem? the brakes work good, no problems. :runaround:its driving me nuts!!! :jump3::swear:

I'm getting codes after codes now and my buddy says a vac leak could be causing them all.

I found the tube running from just before the TB to the rear valve cover is busted where it goes into the valve cover. What is this tube called and where can I find it?

Thanks as always.
