I pulled my trani pan to install a spring that came with my Bowtie Overdrive's TV Made Easy kit and found that inside the spring I pulled out, just sitting in the middle of it was a metal rectangular piece that had "Shift KitŠ" stamped into it. It's a very thin and about 1/4"x1/2" rectangular metal piece. What is this and is it supposed to be in there? Can't possibly serve any function but before I put the pan back on I want to know whether or not to leave it or take it out of there.

Best place to hook up vacuum for cruise control?

Hooking up my cruise control and am wondering where's the best place to hook up the vacuum is? I thought maybe a T on the hose that goes from the intake manifold to the brake booster? The transmission shop originally hooked a T there to operate a Painless vacuum torque converter lockup and it never worked properly so they switched it over to a manual switch.
It's got an Edelbrock carb and a Power Plus intake manifold for small block Chev w/ Vortec heads (http://www.fastpts.com/cgi-bin/hazel-cgi/hazel.cgi?action=serve&item=ppsbchevy.html#sbccyclonevortec) Doesn't look like there's any other vacuum ports on my intake manifold other than the one that goes to the booster. Would there be something on the carb? There's a pinky finger sized plug screwed into the back of the carb and there's a smaller port that's plugged with a rubber plug on the front of the carb.

Hey everybody! i have and 84 chevy caprice classic that Im putting a 350 in...dont kno too much about the motor as it is not the original one. I do kno that it does have a cam, holly duel pump carb mounted on a high rise aluminum intake. The job is just about done but it seems like the carb is giving to much gas and allows it to flood. It cranks over and stays on for maybe nomore then 5seconds. It shoots a thick cloud of white smoke after it shuts off. This is basically the initial start-up to proceed with the proper adjustments from there. Im learning as i go along. Could someone help with what would be the cause and the repair of it all? Thanks!!!!!:iceslolan

Me and my buddy are swapping a motor into his '81 Cutlass and we're wondering what trani this thing has (actually "had" as of today) in it. The motor in the Cutlass was a 260something V8, maybe 263, I can't remember the exact displacement, 260something. Anyway, not important, what we're wondering is *what trani is this?* I originally figured the car would have a 200r4 in it but I guess '81 is too old for that.

I have the light knob that is on the dash not the blinker stalk. When you turn it to dim the dash lights it feels "crunchy" as if the contacts are rusty i'm assuming. I hope its not something i'd have to replace because i'm willing to bet you can't find it anywhere easily(for cheap).I'm not sure if its anything i can access and clean the rust off if that indeed is the problem, but now my dash lights flicker like i'm at a rave party lol.--VERY annoying when driving at night!

Okay I've sorted out my whole cruise control re-install situation...except the throttle linkage. I've got an Edelbrock carb and I was looking at my old Quadrajet and it looks like maybe I pulled out a stud or something because I can't figure out where the cruise control cable hooks up to. I'm pretty sure it hooks onto the carb just like the gas pedal linkage hooks up, just not sure where.
*Anybody got a picture of there factory linkage setup with functioning cruise control? *Only reference I have here at home is my buddies Cutlass and it's strange because the cruise control diaphram thing is mounted to the intake in front of the carb, and the cable pulls in the opposite direction as the gas pedal cable. It also has an extra box that's mounted on the wheel well that the speedometer cable junctions through. Must be a pre-speed sensor light on the back of the speedo thing.

Battery is exactly a year old. I have an amp hooked up with a 1 farad capacitor. Its been hooked up for about 6 months of this battery's life without a problem. However, every morning now, my car wiill either just barely start or will not start. Once the car is started, i can survive the rest of the day shutting off and starting the car without having to jump it.

One thing to note, my alternator just barely powers my amp and over the 6 months i've had my system hooked up do you think i could have killed my battery from straining it? Because when i'm sitting at a light the volts will begin to flutter between 11.5-13 depending on the bass or whatever. But anyway, i was thinking that maybe after fluctuating the voltage like this over the past 6 months the battery finally is giving up?

And another thing, when its raining and i have the wipers, lights, and the fan on halfway i find at idle the voltage will also dip below 12V? Is this normal? You'd think the car should be able to at least power its own accessories no problem, maybe my alternator is starting to go. When i first start the car (cold)the volts are as high as 14.5. But once i start driving around (and even using just the radio on low volume) the volts will eventually go down to 13 and never get back up to 14. I'm not sure if thats normal either but i assume it has to do with the engine/alts temp.

So that was a lot to take in, just thought i'd let you guys know before i end up shelling out yet another $60 or so for a battery.
