How Do I Remove rear Wheel Bearing Hub On 1997 lincoln continental ?

Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly


Removal
1. Turn air suspension service switch off. Raise vehicle on hoist.

2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.

3. Remove rear disc brake caliper. Support rear disc brake caliper with a length of wire.

4. Remove push-on nuts that retain rear disc brake rotor to wheel hub and remove rear disc brake rotor.

5. Remove front hub cap grease seal from wheel hub assembly.

6. Remove rear axle wheel hub retainer and discard. GET NEW AXEL NUT!

7. Remove wheel hub assembly from rear wheel spindle.



Installation

1. Position wheel hub assembly on rear wheel spindle.

2. Install new rear axle wheel hub retainer. (NEW AXEL NUT) Tighten to 255-345 N-m (188-254 lb-ft). Install front hub cap grease seal.

3. Install rear disc brake rotor on wheel hub. Install two push-on retainers that retain rear disc brake rotor.

4. Install rear disc brake caliper.

5. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 N-m (85-104 lb-ft).

6. Lower vehicle.

7. Turn on air suspension service switch.

Mr. Towncar (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=44517)I thank you very much. That is just what I needed to know. Off to get a new axel nut, not sure why they don't come in the box with the hub.

Hey Darryl.. if you need a copy of your 1997 FSM let me know, this procedure (less the graphics) was copied from the FSM.
