timing bypass wire on 94 Jimmy

can someone tell me where the EST wire wire is located on a 94 Jimmy 4X4? And also on the damper- some have 2 slots- how do you know which one to go by when setting base timing? And if the timing is out enough- would it be possible to make it have like a miss at idle at a light or in park and no power on highway? They guy I got it from wasnt a really smart guy, and I do know he was working on it cause he put a new map sensor on it and didnt clear the codes, he didnt have it very long and I bet he thought that it was just the map sensor that was wrong in which is why it wasnt running right, and I think they may have tried to adjust the timing, every once in a while when I go to start it - it acts like a dead battery and seems to turn over half a spin then starts which I can remember other cars being out of time and acting like that. ALso I should mention and just thought about, one of my knock sensors is not hooked up due to a broken end and I know the knock sensors retard the timing to get rid of pinging, with one of them unhooked would it set my computer to a pre determined timing causing this? I mean like not the original timing? My engine light is on and its a code 43 which is the knock sensor

First, you need to get the knock sensor connector fixed and working again, becasue that is an impostant sensor in regards to timing/engine management.

The timing bypass wire on these trucks is on the passenger side, under the dash, right at the front of the footwell, and is usually just under the carpet, fold the carpet down and you'll see it right there. Disconnect it and you ready to set base timing on it. Having the timing off can cause all kinds of problems, so yeah its not out of the question of it causing slugishness, missing if the timing is bad enough, etc.

I folded the carpet down but didnt see the wire, Im having trouble getting the knock sensor out, I sprayed some liquid wrench on it today - and the connector is fine I was looking at it and the plastic piece on the end of the sensor was broke off so there is nothing to hold the connector on the sensor until I get the new one in it

As long as the truck hasn't been tampered with, its there. There is a wire harness, a wire loom there, its right witht hat, its there. Its a tan wire with a black stripe.

I seen where there was a black boot under the carpet with wires coming out of it and going up into the computer. So do you think I should get the knock sensor in first and see if that corrects everything?

I seen a boot where a bunch of wires was coming thru the firewall and going to the computer. Do you think I should get the sensor in first and see if that clears up my problem?

well Blaze you were right! I dont know how I missed the wire the first time, but I got the knock sensor changed after the use of a torch and a pipe wrench, checked the base timing and it was out a good bit we moved the distributor probally about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch, now my engine light came back on and its code 23 which is the IAT sensor, I have already replaced this about a month ago but my friend dropped my intake hose and I dont know if it damaged it or if he just forgot to plug it in but I will check this morning- either way its under warranty. But it does seem to run alot better
