Choke Help 65 Elco

For a 1968 350 on my 65 Elco -

Runs smooth once started - hard to start I think due to choke problems -
Using the old school 3 pumps of Gas and peddal to the floor while starting will usually work but takes too many cranks usually.

Should choke be opening more at the start or closing more at the startup?

Has the spring mechanism which I replaced - what would other adjustments be? Should I advance it so more open or set it so choke is more closed?

Look in the top the choke should be closed when pressing the throttle. The vacuum pull off should open it about 1/4 inch. Use a 1/4 drill bit and set this with vacuum on the pull off. I use a vacuum pump some can suck on a vacuum hose to open it. Watch that the accelerator pump gives it a shot of fuel when pressing on the throttle.

I rebuilt the carb and wondered if I had put the vaccum lead at the right outer port - (one is plugged and one goes to the choke) - obviously I can try switching them but my test time would seem to be only when the car is cold and had not been started for awhile.


Carb is an Edelbrock - standard 4 barrel - # evades me 3250 maybe

As you purchased a kit for the carburetor I would use recommended settings. I gave you a common one as you didn't state the type.
