I am looking to sell my truck due to its pitiful gas mileage. and buy a car with about 26 or more mpg highway. and under $5000. It HAS to be RWD and looking for about 140 + horsepower. thanks a bunch guys

? why does it have to be RWD?

limits the choices quite drastically when your talking about low HP lol. I dunno, maybe a V6 Mustang or Camaro. Its not that the V8's don't get that 26mpg, they just have 300+ HP

Welcome to AF.

That criteria is a bit odd. Most people are more concerned with size, body style, features, etc.

Your list covers everything from an economy Mustang to a Lincoln Town car to a clapped-out BMW. A bit more detail would be handy.

With the info provided I'd say a Crown Vic is the best option. <$5K, 25 mpg highway, RWD, solid car. But in order to ever see that mileage, you'll need to be light on the gas - the beast churns 275 lb-ft torque, so being heavy on the loud pedal will give you 15 mpg.

If you really want to make a difference in your mileage, why not consider a mid-size, FWD 4-cylinder or V6? Something like an early 2000's Chevy Impala is a comfortable car and will return upwards of 32 mpg highway.

i have a 1989 nissan 240sx stick shift and RWD that meets your criteria w/ the mpg being 27-29 (yay)

but i'm not selling; this car is too much fun to drive!

Good call, 240SX is a solid buy if you're cool with 2 doors. Hard to find one though, especially one that has either 1) not modified the crap out of the car, or 2) is willing to part with it.
