No tail lights

I have the '82 pace car. It has multiple electrical issues. :runaround: One is that the tail lights don't work.
When I bought the car, the after market stereo wasn't working correctly so I pulled it out and whoever installed it should be shot! They had enough wiring in there to rewire the entire car and none of it even remotely correct. I removed all of the work that they had done and re-installed it correctly. When I started the car, my tail lights were working. The next time I started the car they were gone again. :banghead: I'm sure that the issue has to do with this but would appreciate any ideas.
The second issue is that the car will drain the battery in about 2 days. If I unhook the battery then there isn't an issue. I'm not sure if this is related to the stereo fiasco or not. Again, any ideas?

Fuse? you checked that. If the fuse is good take a DVOM and see if there is current on the upstream side of the fuse block. If not the wiring to the fuse block is bad. Do you have dash lights? Usually they are on the same circuit. My best guess is that when the stereo was put in the electrical lead for the dash lights got connected to a ground and is burning out your Dash/Taillight fuse.

I have dash lights, the fuse is good and there is current on the upstream side of the fusebox. I hate electrical problems! lol

At this point I would take the bulbs out and check them. It is unlikely they would both burn out at the same time, but it is possible. Check the ground for the tail light bulbs. It could be causing the problem.

(Smacks self in forehead)
Now why didn't I think of that? lol I'm going to give that a shot if I ever have an extra hour to do it. Start with the easy stuff first! I may have already checked the bulbs but just to be safe, I'm going to do it again.
The guy that I got the car from.....well....let's just say that it wouldn't surprise me if both bulbs were out. He always had me change the oil but he never wanted anything else done or checked. I doubt that he cared if any lights worked.
It may be a few days but I'll let you all know what I find.

Take it to the dealer.
They should fix it under warranty.

The bulbs are good. I haven't got time right now to do much else. I just need to sell this car to someone that has the time.
I wish that warranty work was available on this car but since it is 27yo I don't know any dealers that will do that.

That would be cool if like he said a 27 year old car had dealer warranty
