It appears that my engine has dropped the dowel pin.I noticed an oil stain on my garage floor.I investigated the sorce of the leak and found that the gearcase cover has been split.I am curious if there could be internal damage to the gears or any other component.Since the day I noticed the oil stain, there has been no difference in starting or preformance.Could I be lucky in which the cover suffered the brunt of the damage and the pin has now settled somewhere in my oil pan??

There's a chance it's in the oilpan or bottom of the gearcase.
The timing gear cover needs to be removed, errant dowel pin found & replaced and tabbed.
If any of the gears are chipped and/or the KDP not found, the oilpan needs to be removed and cleaned out....we don't need pieces of broken parts migrating to the oil pump and locking it up.
