I have been looking at some salvage Taurus' to bring mine back into shape, anyone know what years

body panels are interchangable with 2001?

drive train components interchangable with 2001

I have 130,000 on my 2001 and have a warped head causing leaks, was repaired once by dealer but now off warranty and leaking again. With economy would prefer to buy a salvage car wrecked rear with 30-60k miles and swap some parts I am finding 2000 through 2006 salvage cars for under $3000.

Thanks,
Rick

In all honesty a perfect 2000 with a vulcan is only worth about 4K.

There are many instances where what I am about to post isn't true but generally

Everything on a suspension from a 1996 to a 2006 is the same and interchangeable.

Some cars didn't have rear swaybars so struts don't have a tab to mount a sway bar.

spring rates were softened on the GenIV (2000-2006) but they will interchange.
Brakes, knuckles and everything else will interchange no problem.

The Duratec (24V DOHC) engines have had enough changes that it's hard to say what will and won't work.

The Vulcan(12V pushrod engine) is pretty much the same from it's inception. What has changed is the intake , fuel delivery etc ,etc.

In 2001 Ford started using a bigger front rotor and pads. The only thing you have to do to upgrade to larger rotor and pads is use a caliper bracket from a 2001 or newere OR a 98 or 99 SHO. PLEASE NOTE: YOU HAVE TO START RUNNING 16" WHEELS FOR CLEARANCE AFTER THIS MODIFICATION!

Body panels are interchangeable from 2000 until the made the change to the 500
In all honesty if you take the time to really look at a 96-99 and then a 2000 or newere the outer skin on the doors is exactly the same and in theory will bolt right up. The problem is then the mounting of the door panels.

Another great salvage swap is non heated mirrors to heated mirrors.

In the 2000 and newer it is a straight swap because the wiring is already to the plug for the heated.
You can also pull a genIII (96-99) heated mirrors and they are pretty much plug and pay but you need to hook the older motor to the newer bracketry.
So the answer to your question is maybe.

And btw Do not pay 3000 dollars for a salvaged Taurus. They were Ford's Fleet car, there are a million of them out there and they have no resale value.

I just saw you are from Indiana, since it is the rust belt the salvage cars are even less desireable.

I need window motor and linkage for 2000 taurus..wondering if 1999 parts from Pull-A-Part will work,,,although the overall body has changed , the doors appear the same...the 2000 cars they have dont have the doors.

According to Fast Parts Network (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=318&chapter=&Sectionids=0,2732&groupid=51894&subgroupid=2745&componentid=0&make=10&model=Taurus&year=1999&graphicID=JN96470&callout=7&catalogid=2&displayCatalogid=0) the regulator assemblies would not be the same. They show 1996-1999 for one, then 2000-2007 for another. Same for the front window motors. The picture looks exactly the same.

Generally the salvage yards have software that will tell them what years are interchangeable. Did you ask them to look it up?
