Acura Hydraulic Lifter

I have a 2000 Acura 3.2TL with 118K miles. The car works great. However, as part of the maintenance requirement, it called for adjusting the hydraulic valve lifters. From what I know, hydraulic valve lifter is designed to adjust the valve lash automatically so why is it necessary to adjust the lash? Is this typical for Acura only? I have hydraulic valve lifters in my Ranger P/U and no adjustment is required.
