Engine for Tamiya Ford Sierra RS500?

I want to make a stock RS500 but I'm lost on finding the right engine. The only 2 that come to mind are from Monograms 2.3L TurboCoupe Thunderbird or Mustang IMSA racer. Is the RS500 engine just a DOHC version of the 2.3L or is it entirely different?

The Turbo Coupe engine is the closest you'll get to it, I think.

That's the one I used to build a replica of my nephew's XR4Ti.

Another possible option is the BDA RS1800 twin Cam motor in any of the Esci or Revell Ford Escort Mk2 rally cars. You will need to add a turbo from the parts box and modify the head slightly but it is more realistic that the 2.3 motor you mention.

The Cosworth YB is based on the Pinto block, so technically the T-Bird Turbo Coupe engine with a modified head would be more accurate. Either way you will need to modify the cylinder head and the valve cover, which would be the hardest part.

Bburago made a die-cast Escort Cosworth Rally before, I can't quite remember the quality but I think it has a usable valve cover with the correct engraving. You'll still need to mate it to the TC block with a modified head.

The YB looks nothing like a 2.3 lima...Different block, head, intake manifold and turbo and exhaust manifold set up...

Obviously the head and related gears are different.

The block is the 1,993cc version of the T88 "Pinto" block, as seen in regular Sierras.

As I too have an RS500, I am also curious about the proper engine. I was going to use the mentioned Turbocoupe motor, but I am not pleased with the detail, though it isn't THAT bad. I am curious what other 1:1 cars the proper cylinder head and valve cover might have come on.

The YB is used on the Sierra RS Cosworth and Escort RS Cosworth, as well as the Panther Solo. It is also used in a number of kit cars (but not on Caterhams, at least not from the factory).

Damn shame. I saw a cosworth RS that was in perfect shape aside from an obvious blown turbo (and probably motor with the ammount of parts missing from the turbo) at the salvage yard not long ago. It got crushed with NOTHING taken from it.
