Looking to do a engine swap. Pulling the old 2.5 and saying goodbye to the Iron Duke. Swapping a 327 sb chevy with carb. Just need a few tips on cutting the wheel well and battery replacement. Plus tips for the rear suspension. Thanks.

There are companies that sell the conversion kit and find out from them.I have seen one with a fuel injected LT1 with a five speed which was done right.

There's a place, I believe in California, called "V8 Archie's" that offers the kit. A search should turn it up.

Word of "warning", most of those V8 swaps use TH125 (FWD, little bitty transmission). Power output must be "controlled" (fairly mild) or the trans will NOT "live".

"Fear Arrow", built by a man in Ferncliff, VA, was an '88 SE with a 455 Pontiac in it, with a TH325 (FWD unit from early '80s Riviera, Toronado and El Dorado). A little "adaptation" and it worked well. TH425 (from the late '60s/'70s Eldo and Toro) is FAR superior (a "sideways TH400 of sorts). Just to make sure you understand the issues involved.

The most "popular" swap today is to get the 3800-Series "3" supercharged engine from a Grand Prix, Regal or Monte, along with an early '90s 5-speed from Baretta, Corsica, etc. Very fast. Fairly efficient. Much easier (swap-wise) than the V8. They run 11s in the 1/4 mile...

Personally, I prefer mine with a 3.1 or 3.4 60-degree V6, moderately "pumped up". No "adaption" necessary (bolts in where 2.8 was), plenty of power for "spirited driving", and no change to the car's overall geometry. Not really "fast" but lots of fun!

We're collecting the parts for a 3.4 "Twin Cam" version for an '86 SE I have "lyning around". That's going to take some inginuity and some luck, but it will FLY!

V8 Archie is in Machesney Park, IL. www.v8archie.com I have one of his conversions an 88 Fiero IMSA widebody coupe with a ZZ4 TPI (350ci/355HP) mated to the five speed getrag manual. When I was on the Hot Rod Power Tour 2009, there was one Fiero with a 327 small block, but I am unsure what transmission he had in the car. Many when they do bigger engine swaps use a 4T460 four speed auto which can be beefed up.

What tranny would be in the 84 SE? I am thinking if I need to do a tranny swap as well I may just do a 4.3 V6 instead, I know I can use the V8 archie kit for that seeing as the back of the block is the same as a small block chevy. What do you think?

If the car is an auto it is a t125 three speed, the only auto used in the Fiero. If it is a manual it is probably a 4-speed MY8, unless you have one with a 4.10 drive ratio.
