1996 gmc 5.7 won't start-no spark600cuin 11-11-2009, 06:03 PM I have a 1996 GMC 1500 with a 5.7 Problem was it wouldn't turn over, wouldn't start, it had spark, but coil was cracked. Changed coil, vehicle started, went about 500 yards, engine just quit. Wouldn't start, no spark. Cranks over now, but no spark. The code reader reads P1345.. I have changed the crank sensor, checked fuel pressure, changed the sensor in the distributer, put a new coil on, changed rotor button and distributor cap. removed distributor, checked the gear on the end for wear which was ok. Changed spark plugs, still no spark at all. I have researched the forums here, but am ready to give up on fixing this. Also checked all the fuses and they were all good. fredjacksonsan 11-11-2009, 10:01 PM Hey 600cuin, Welcome to AF. I'm moving this from the Cherokee FYI section to the GMC section...you didn't indicate what vehicle you have, so I'm moving to the GMC pickup section. PM me if you need it elsewhere. 600cuin 11-13-2009, 07:23 AM Sorry, haven't used this forum much, I'm glad it got posted, as it took me an hour to read thru the FAQ to find out to to post a new thread. And I have read the rules. Thanks for pointing out that it went in the wrong section-leave it to me.:shakehead maxwedge 11-13-2009, 08:51 AM Do you have spark directly out of the coil wire,? 600cuin 11-13-2009, 09:16 AM No, there is no spark anywhere. maxwedge 11-13-2009, 01:03 PM I would try to scan it and look for cranking rpms, to see what the pcm is seeing. This assumes no fuse bad and all good connections of course. I assume no injector pulse also. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
