Alright, I hope I am posting in the right spot, said non specific chevy. I have an 87 s10, 2.5 inline 4 with a 4 speed manual. From the info I have gathered threw my own searching around, and the gm service reps from a reputable dealer, I believe that I have a T4 borg warner. I was told that a T4 is basicaly a T5 minus the overdrive gear. The motor I found and have yet to purchase, is a rebuilt 3800 series out of a 2000 Firebird. Firebirds and cameros both had the T5 as the manual transmission on the v6 models, so my question is will that motor match up with my trans (T4?) just like the T5, and if not where is a good place to find an adapter kit. The guy that has the motor will sell me all the other components under the hood. I know I am going to have fabricate some things in my truck. My main concern is the engine to trans. Again, thats a 2000 model year firebird 3800 motor, and an 87 s10 2.5 4 speed (is not 4x4):screwy:

When reading between the lines here, I get the impression that this particular V6 you are looking at has an automatic trans, and not a manual, right?

If the Camaro has a manual transmission, buy the engine and trans together. It will save you major installation hassles regarding fitment, engine mount placement etc.

If the Camaro has an automatic right now, it's most likely your T4 will not work anyways. Many GM engines made for use behind an automatic transmission have no provision for a pilot bushing. Also I'm pretty sure the bellhousing bolt pattern is not compatible, so your transmission would not bolt up.

Imo if the Camaro is an automatic, it would be much better to buy the auto trans too, and use that instead of a manual.

One more thing.... I am not sure what your skill level is like, but retaining all the ECM, wiring harness and electronic controls from the Camaro is EXTREMELY complicated. And when it's all done, you will only have 200 hp..... something you could easily attain with a near-stock S10 with a factory 4.3 V6.

Imho you would be MUCH better off to swap in a Chevy 350 V8. There are several kits available for this swap with all parts and instructions included (except the actual engine and trans.... but the kit tells you which one to get).
This swap will be much easier and quicker, it is not particularly expensive and probably will result in more power.
