Hi, workmates!

I joined AF recently and this is my first thread in WIP.

I'm a Korean and not good at writing in English(actually speaking is worse...) because it's my second language. I hope your understand on this.

This is my recent completed bike YAMAHA M1 No.5 of 2005 season.

I used tamiya kit(1/12) + topstudio's detail set & chain set, and gunje & tamiya paint basically.

Tamiya kit

Topstudio's detail set

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1199279091_DSCN3230.JPG

Assembled parts without glue for checking.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1200926364_DSCN3262.jpg

Modified cowlings to fit the detail parts. Parts in left side are after work.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1200408787_DSCN3248.jpg

Added some more details and painted basic color on the swing arm, brake disc etc.(most parts are semi-gloss black).

Made the muffler part.

Detail set's tip was added.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1199804779_DSCN3242.jpg

Added hooks for spring.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1199804779_DSCN3243.jpg

Painted and added sensors and wirings.

Added decal on muffler and some weathering on tip.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1213492821_DSCN3302.jpg

Painted the basic color on the cowlings.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1200408787_DSCN3249.jpg

Added the decals on cowlings.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200801/1200678020_DSCN3260.jpg

Added carbon decal on each parts. I used KA model's cabon decal. They are printed by cartograph and very nice to work.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200803/1204552679_DSCN3275.jpg

As I planed to display this bike open the cowlings, inside of some cowlings had to be carbon fibred.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200803/1204552679_DSCN3277.jpg

Some carbon parts need to be added carbon decal on both side.

Made wheels.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214160117_DSCN3321.jpg

They need some weathering job.

Added some details on handle part.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214160117_DSCN3323.jpg

Put the engine on the sash.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214160117_DSCN3326.jpg

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214160117_DSCN3325.jpg

And making chains.

I compared three chains - Tamiya's original, Model Factory Hiro's and Topstudio's.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214661082_DSCN3342.JPG

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214661082_DSCN3340.JPG

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214660027_DSCN3310.JPG

Tamiya's has poor detail(actually it's not bad) but is very cheap and easy to make and install.

Topstudio's is very expensive and difficult to make and install, however has very nice detail.

MFH's.... I think it's nearly impossible to make the chain neat. It's a nonsense. Additionally, very big.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214665377_DSCN3335.jpg

Silver is MFH's and gold is TS's.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214665377_DSCN3334.jpg

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214665377_DSCN3339.jpg

White metal part is MFH's and PE part is TS's.

So... I decided to use TS's chain.

Making the chain was very difficult, however, the detail compensated all the effort.

http://blogfile.paran.com/BLOG_250368/200806/1214666231_DSCN3332.jpg

However, installing the chain through the swing arm was another big job.

It took me almost 2 hours.

At last....

First of all, welcome!
Great start, clean work and great photos. I think you overdid the wheathering on the exhaust but overall detailing is super!

Welcome to AF. This is a great kit and your work on it is very clean and tidy. Your efforts on the Top Studio chain are also well rewarded. It looks like you didn't have any trouble with the assembly at all. Mine just fell apart and really frustrated me. What do you plan to use the MFH chain on?

I agree on Joel. You did a good job so far on the model but I'm also not a fan of the heatstaining. But overall the model looks great.

Thanks for your kind welcome.

The wheathering on the exhaust is always difficult. During painting, it's not easy to stop at the proper moment.:frown:

And I don't want to start all procedures from the first.

I just keep the MFH's chain in my stash. I think I should return it to my friend.

By the way, I cannot see how to use the multi-quote function.

I just cut and paste and alter the name in the first tag.

It stood alone with it's own two wheels.

Made electronic device parts from Topstudio.

Making those parts and wiring were very difficult because of the poor instructions. As TS only provided several photos of assembled model I had to refer the photos of real M1.

Continued the wiring...

As I used the CA, one mistake could ruin the bike.

Thank you for your comment, eFWoRKs.

Yes, I completed this bike some months ago and they posted the photos on Topstudio's customer gallery. I appreciate your remembering it.

Now I've posted more photos on AF and you can find them on "completed projects/gallery".

Sorry for posting old photos on WIP. I will post my current WIP project soon.

A very good job on the build - What brand "manufacture" are the exhaust springs?

Wow im so stupid would have never thought of doing the wled that way. I always manage to sand down the weld mark as the exhuast typically are two parts. Thanks for the tip. Also the spring looks as good as aftermarket ones.

What size are those wires for the spring? Or are they just out of something electronic.

I don't know the exact size because I used the wire attached to some kind of name tag. I cannot measure it. About 0.3mm?
However, you can get the thin siver wire from the computer data cable such as a printer cable.
