Aston Martin DB9R 2008 24H LMGT1 WinnerSpike2933 11-05-2009, 11:01 AM I might as well start the next build diary. I'll be building the Provence Miniatures Super Kit of a GT1 beauty. Yes its another Aston Build, but this one is a little different :iceslolan http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4189.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4190.jpg PM missed some decals for the car, so I picked up a sheet from colorado decals, also the orange decal will be a bit easier to do http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4191.jpg much more to come, cheers, Steve klutz_100 11-05-2009, 01:13 PM Subscribed :D jaykay640 11-05-2009, 02:45 PM Oh yes, me too! I have that one waiting to be built :-) Please mention where you use the extra decals ( and where you bought them ). Haven't gotten into the details of this one yet so i haven't noticed any missing stickers! Spike2933 11-05-2009, 02:54 PM Hi Jaykay, I noticed PMA forgot the official Team Nameplate that goes on the roof, also the decals are more crisp and detailed then the PMA decals. http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/shop/cars/1-43-scale/1-43-decals/1-43-decals-gt/coldcc43176-colorado-decals-1-43-aston-martin-dbr-9-007-009-le-mans-2008.html had a feeling you'd like this one Steve lemansnut 11-05-2009, 08:00 PM Hey Steve, Definitely be watching your progress here. Will you be bringing it to the Ferrari show next year? Looking forward to seeing all your latest. Mike Spike2933 11-05-2009, 11:21 PM Prolly, I should have this done by then, should go nicely along with the Mclaren, I know Tom wants to see that one Noddy 11-06-2009, 09:54 AM Just curious if you gave any thought to the Renaissance version of this kit? Did you compare the two and, if so, what were the major differences? I've been considering getting one and the PM is quite a lot more than the Renaissance. For the curbside kit, I would prolly go with Renaissance, the doors are also opened for that kit, but the PMA version is a full detail and wanted to get this version instead. I'm sure both kits have the pro's and cons, but I highly doubt you would be wouldn't be disappointed with either kit from Renaissance's site http://www.renaissance-models.com/images/Catalogue_CD/086_Aston-Martin_DBR-9_LM2008-3.jpg Noddy 11-06-2009, 05:41 PM For the curbside kit, I would prolly go with Renaissance, the doors are also opened for that kit, but the PMA version is a full detail and wanted to get this version instead. I'm put off by the price of the Provence kit - that and I haven't found it in stock anywhere. I've really only checked GPM and they have the Renaissance one. I'll be following your build! Spike2933 11-09-2009, 04:00 PM I got the PMA kit from mafma.com (through their EBAY store) very good dealer. I finished the ever complex rear diffuser, thanks to jochen kieslich build, it went alot easier than planned. the problem is that PMA made the diffuser from the 2005 spec, and the 08 was alot different. before: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4192.jpg after the grinding and sanding http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4193.jpg the next part was that the slits in the Photoetch was all for equal spaces, though the 08 car didn't have it. fitted to car with ticky tack http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4194.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4196.jpg thanks for looking cheers, Steve tuned.by.twenty 11-09-2009, 10:41 PM Very cool! Spike2933 11-10-2009, 03:11 PM Next of the PMA fixes. the rear wing, PMA gives you the rear wing from the 05 car, much like the diffuser work is needed, the 08 wing had a dip in the middle of the wing, I guess for better airflow and downforce on the rear. before: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4201.jpg after: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4206.jpg ref: http://www.motorsport.com/photos/lemans/2008/24h/lemans-2008-24h-eg-3135.jpg the front splitter also needed minor bending, the real car did not a a flat splitter but was bent http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4204.jpg reference http://www.motorsport.com/photos/lemans/2008/24h/lemans-2008-24h-eg-2182.jpg more to come, cheers, Steve jaykay640 11-10-2009, 03:29 PM I'm taking notes of all your "fixes". It really is obvious that this kit is the "old" DBR9 just repacked with new decals. I'm still looking forward to building it though:-) I couldn't resist and even bought the full open '07 Corvette as well :-) klutz_100 11-10-2009, 03:49 PM Impressive fixes, Steve  As I am following this build I keep twitching towards my PayPal account LOL :D Spike2933 11-10-2009, 04:29 PM I'm taking notes of all your "fixes". It really is obvious that this kit is the "old" DBR9 just repacked with new decals. I'm still looking forward to building it though:-) I couldn't resist and even bought the full open '07 Corvette as well :-) The Kit still is up-to-date for the interior at least, there are a few items that have to be made with styrene. I've been following the directions from the Renaissance-models version, I know Etienne does a great job with all there models and get them as accurate as possible. I was getting tempted to get the Panoz, but decided not too Spike2933 11-11-2009, 08:17 PM Ok next is the front bonnet to be updated, PMA does have a photo-etch piece for the extra covers but were horrible fit and was not flush as you had to put it on from underneath, so I took the thinnest Styrene I have and made them myself. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4216.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4217.jpg This should help with some inspiration ;) finally decided to put them up after a month lol http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4211.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4212.jpg working on the exhaust pipes next. cheers, Steve Spike2933 11-22-2009, 05:13 PM an update I'm not very pleased with PMA with the tires, the rims are very bad, they are made of resin and are very fragile on its sides, getting them into the tires is another problem, the fit is so tight that I did break some of the edges of the rims, I fixed it with a thin strip of styrene. I even gave up on the last one to be done and cut the tire and filled in the rubbed with a spare tire from another kit (its not pretty but the michelin logo hides the cuts) http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4236.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4241.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4243.jpg some of the aero pieces are done (rear wing, front and rear diffusers, mirrors, side skirts) did them with Scale Motorsport CF and the clear made some bubble really only on the photo etch pieces, the mirrors nor rear wing have them, I'm sort of baffled but I have to wonder if I didn't hae all the solvaset off and cleaned. luckly for me, all of the bubbles don't matter because they will not be seen on the finished product. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4246.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4249.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4252.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4254.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh152/Spike2933/Work%20in%20Progress/Aston%20Martin%20DB9R/100_4257.jpg cheers, Steve vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
