I have a 97 4runner Automatic that as your driving it hesitates between shifting its gears. Most prominently happens around 80km/hr shifting between gears.

Its a sort of soft sputtering/jerking motion momentarily. It does shift into the gear and does drive fine once its in the gear. My check engine light is on aswell now....

ANY help guys would be greatly appreciated! Where should i start or has anyone else had this problem???? HELP!!

Since your Check Engine Light is on, and you're having a problem, it might be a good time to find out why the CEL is on. Get the codes read from the ECM.

Definitely have the codes read and post back...that helps alot or could be self-explanatory.

Most likely cause is low or old transmission fluid. Check the fluid after the truck's been driven and warm. If it looks brown and smells burned, it's way past changing time. If you have it changed at a shop, don't let them "flush" it. That tends to make things worse on neglected trannys. Change it plus the filter, run it 1k miles, then change just the fluid again. But if the codes indicate a problem with the solenoids, those can be addressed with the pan off while doing the fluid change.

Let us know how it goes & good luck!

Got the codes read.

Told that its an issue residing between cylinders 1 and 2. Something maybe a long overdue tune up could potentially solve yeah?? Perhaps a misfire, or weak ignition on these cylinders...?

Residing between????? What exactly was the code number? or numbers? and what did it say exactly?
