my mom has a 2001 buick regal ls. you can be driving down the road and it will just die...no warning, just quits. it wil restart after a few tries, and when it finally restarts and you give it gas it blows black smoke and it stinks. she has taken it to the mechanic and they fixed the mass airflow sensor. this isn't a common occurence, it has been fine, it's been 2 months since this last happened. the person who owned it before her had the throttle body tightened?? any ideas??

Welcome to AF.

It sounds like another MAF sensor issue or possibly a bad CAT converter. How many miles are on this Regal LS?

Check out the link below located at our Buick Tips & Maintenance forum. Also, unplug the MAF sensor electrical connector and see what it does.
