Best ideas to make power out of a D16 (turbo,NA,supercharger)GUMINA144 10-22-2009, 09:35 PM hey, im thinking about buying a 99 civic with a D16 in it non vtec and was wondering what would be the best way to make the most power for only a few grand. (im doing all the work my self) civic542 10-26-2009, 02:47 PM Personally I would go with a turbo kit or swap your motor for a B18C1(or both), but if you are wanting to keep the OE motor you are going to want an EX or a SI. It's pretty hard to find performance parts for a non-vtec civic. GUMINA144 10-27-2009, 09:04 PM ya thats what i was thinking about doing is the B18 swap then boosting the crap out of it. thanks man. justinisgay 11-01-2009, 11:06 AM I think you're better off leaving the stock engine in it. You can easily pick up loads of horsepower by putting a cold air intake and a exhaust on it. My friend put these parts on his car and he is running low 13's in the 1/4 mile. bluevp00 11-03-2009, 09:24 PM I think you're better off leaving the stock engine in it. D16 non-vtec engines engines are already tuned almost to optimum performance from the factory, given the limits that a static camshaft has in a 1.6 liter engine. Of course, a turbo or supercharger will add power to such an engine, but the value for the dollar may not be worth it. Better off going with a D16Y8 (EX model VTEC) or better yet a B16/B18 swap if you want to make some real power. The B series engines take very well to boosting. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
