so i have been watchin a bit of drag racing and the deisel cars and trucks are preety intersting and it has got me thinking, they usually only use duramax and other engines like that but wat about a detroit diesel like a 8-71 with 900 foot pounds and 300 horse wood that not get u down the track preety fast especially witha beefed up Th400 and a high gear in the rear??? just thinkin and could be a cool project

If there is a drag-racing class for Class 8 highway tractors, the 2-stroke DD's would probably rule the roost.
I had a GMC truck with a 6-71. It's amazing how much smaller and lighter it was than a comparable 4-stroke turbo Cummins.

The 6-71 could build revs faster, too. I have seen and heard many American-built firetrucks in the last few decades used 2-stroke DD's for this reason.... they were fast when placed in medium-sized trucks.

But it's hopeless compared to the new light truck diesels which simply build revs much faster and can turn quicker times. The DD '71' series is 71 years old. The '92' series is 35 years old. Other designs have benefitted from much technical progress since then.
