They changed some things in 2003/2004. You would need a PCM from a 2003 and the engine wireing harness from a 2003 to use a 03 trans.

does the 04 still use the 4T65E

2000 - 2010 Impalas ALL use the 4T65E yes. Just over the years they improved/changed some minor stuff.

Hey Ripp....I was wondering if you ever did your swap and if everything turned out OK??

I actually am going to try to just the opposite and put an 01 Tranny into an 03. Trying to find out if there is a way i can make my swap work----maybe its as simple as having the wiring harness and computer to match the transmission?? Any tips or feedback would be appreciated

The PCM does not have to be changed and I put in a 2001 in a 2003 without changing the PCM.You have to make sure it is the right one and there are a couple things to look at the wiring plug,the big round plug looking for the color.For example a brown plug will not work with the vehicle coming with a green plug.The gear ratio has to be right or it will not work.The final drive can be swaped out to the replacement real easily.
