1991 Lumina Z-34 cruise control inoperativeDoug Rodrigues 10-17-2009, 08:33 PM Not sure what I did to make the cruise control inoperative. Here's what happpened: Had to replace the brake booster. In the process, I accidentally damaged the brake light switch. Installed a new brake light switch. All wires are connected, which included that two contact cruise control plug into the side of the switch. The cruise control now doesn't work. I checked all of the fuses in the glove box. Are there more fuses that I don't know about? I checked the vacuum lines, and the wiring connecting to the servo in the engine compartment. I cannot find anything disconnected? I'm now out of ideas. Has anybody else had a similiar problem?:banghead: Oh, if anybody else has to ever replace that brake switch, it's a real "treat." You'll be swearing...guaranteed. Bearwulf 10-18-2009, 02:36 AM There are 2 more electrical centers (fuse Panels) under the hood. One on each side of the car. Test fuses in place with a test light, there are bare areas on the top of each fuse at each end. If fuse is good have someone operate the brake pedal, check to see if the brake lights don't come on or do not shut off. Either of these problems indicates problem at brake light switch, usually out of adjustment. Since the cruise is voltage operated, if lights do not shut off, cruise will not activate. Cruise actually has a relay as well. Doug Rodrigues 10-18-2009, 02:44 AM The brake light switch is brand new, and both wiring connectors are properly attached with the locking clip in place. The brake lights operate normally. I'll go look for those other fuses under the hood tomorrow. Thanks. Doug Rodrigues 10-18-2009, 08:16 PM FIXED !! I knew it had to be something simple, but I had to find it. I even tried another new brake light switch thinking the maybe the excess grease in the first new switch had something to do with the problem. Anyway, I was looking up at the brake switch wondering why the hell I couldn't find the problem? Then I noticed that the grey switch with the green plunger contact wasn't making contact with the brake pedal arm. Could it be that simple? Yup, it was. Somehow the vacuum release switch got bumped too far back and that kept the cruise control from functioning. I pushed the vacuum release switch forward to contact the brake pedal arm where it should be and took it for a test drive. Cruise control works great now. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
