Got a 1992 jimmy with the 4.3L without vortec, its hard to start misses and you have to push the gas pedal down and hold it down until it warms up but once warmed up seems to run fine, has alot of gas smell to it. Changed plugs, wires, rotor button, dist. cap, oxygen sensor, MAF, and changed the oil and filter, none of it seems to help!!!! Anyone got any suggestions on what I need to do next, Thanks!!!

Any check engine lights or codes?

Computer check with a scanner on air tempt and engine tempt and TPS and map sensor to pcm readings would be a great help.
Any of them bad can cause rich running and starting problems.

Vortecs didn't arrive until 1996 model year along with OBD-II. You likely have a Throttle Body Injection (TBI).

Check these three things: 1) Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, 2) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, and 3) Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.

I'd also make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks...grab some carb cleaner and spray around the TB stack under the air cleaner. When the engine stumbles, where you sprayed is the leak.

Finally, make sure the coil is putting out a good hot-blue spark & test the resistance against the specs.

Hope this helps!

Not to be nitpicky, but he said he didn't have Vortec, therefore he must have TBI.

However, most people call the CPI injection motor Vortec, since it says that on the top cover. That started in '92.

If the ignition timing was checked, you might want to verify that the connector for the wire you have to disconnect is re connected. (Under the dash on the right side behind the glove box).
