just replaced heater core, had a leak under the car, fixed that, but theres coolant on the driver side floor. is the heater core broken? it has heat. i can smell coolant when i turn it on though. its getting cold on and would be a pain to put on a new heater core. but i do have an extra one laying around.

If you just rerplaced the heater core I wouldnt think it would be blown and leaking. Or was it a used one ?

Double check that the hoses are good and tight. It can leak from outside and drain into the heater core box and run onto the pass floor.

used yeah, it came off my old 96 grand am thats been sitting for a couple months. it worked fine in that car though. That one was a 3.1 while the new is 2.4, does that matter? im new to the whole car thing and just getting started with messing around with them. Ive got another heater core that i might just put in and see what happens. dont have much time before its really cold out. but if you have any other suggestions let me know.

also, the hoses didnt go all the way through the (firewall?) circles, does that matter? they seem to be nice and snug on the heater core pipes though.

the original heater core lines brake if you don't look at them with a smile.

Those are plastic lines and are very sensitive if you try to wrestle with them to go the way you want them to go. Buy new one, it is all aluminum and you are done.

both of them are aluminum. the one that came out had the plastic things but the other 2 are aluminum

yeah old cores can just leak, especialy if its been sitting long.
And as 3100 mentioned if it was the old style plastic core its probley cracked somewheres.

the zone has a new one for around $30, a nicer delpi about $40... i think.

It doesnt get that cold in TX does it ? lol

IMO the 99+ are easier then the older ones to change. The older models are higher up behind the dash, plus more stuff in the way.

The 99+ are practicaly on the floor. Either way they're both pains in the neck ! :grinyes:
And the newer cores cost a little bit mroe.

If you really don't need heat since you live in Texas, and if it is leaking as a first aid you can simply bypass it from outside with a small aluminum pipe until you find the time to do it right.

it's been bypassed for about 3 years now lol talk about lazy :D
