Guide Coat33Brock 10-13-2009, 12:13 PM Hi fellas, Dave Brockelmeyer here. I have a question about what type of paint to use as a guide coat. My definition of a guide coat is a contrasting color which is sprayed over primer then wet sanded to reveal any low areas. I bought a spray can from Eastwood and it worked well but was like $14 per can. I want to be able to use a cheap paint from WalMart if possible but am wary of what I apply and how it may affect my finish paint. A friend once said it was OK to use any cheap paint as long as it was a light mist applied and it should be enamel. I stopped at my local O'Rileys and noticed they sell automotive paint and asked about this. He said to use a cheap laquer. What do you recomend? Thanks Dave I wanted to add that I am using Omni 2K primer and will be finishing with Omni base-coat/clear-coat Mark Lapes 10-14-2009, 02:09 PM Hi I always use a black paint. Just fog it on lightly. 3M makes a powder guide coat that works nice also. 33Brock 10-15-2009, 01:35 AM Black is my color of choice but my question is: enamel or laquer? will either one have a bad reaction with the paint I am using? Mark Lapes 10-15-2009, 06:59 AM It wont have a reaction because your just putting it on very lightly. LearnAutoBody 10-15-2009, 07:10 AM I agree with Mark, it is just dusted on and it should not have a problem. I would prefer lacquer because it will not clog your paper as bad as enamel. 33Brock 10-18-2009, 01:38 AM Thanks , I appreciate the help. Dave vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
