I have a 1987 camaro and I can not get the hatch brake light to work. It takes 5 small bulbs, which I have replaced all of them. It still does not work. Is there a fuse that controls this one light or purhaps the wire is cut somewhere? Any ideas?

Check for power at the terminals by the latch mechanism. Also make sure that power is transfering from the body to the hatch at this point. You can put 12v to the terminals in the hatch at this point to prove that the wiring is intact and that the light works.

I had problems with my 87 third brake like on the hatch, here they are:

1) Clean the contacts on the hatch and the "hot-shoe", they get dirty and cause low voltage. Now I do this every spring when I take it out of storage.

2) Remove the light strip from the hatch and check the whole assembly out. A few years ago I found the connector on mine melted, I soldered a new connector (I may have used 2 flag terminals, I don't remember!) and its been working fine since.

Hope this helps.
