1995 W-body, fuel pump?exitRooster 10-08-2009, 07:30 PM Hey all.. I've got a 1995 Cutlass Supreme 3.4l that I need help with, and it was recommended to come over here - Guess our W-bodies aren't as popular as yours :) You can look up my original post if ya like over there - but the long story condensed is that I need to try and figure out why my car isn't getting any fuel. I've checked the pressure relief/release valve, there is no pressure, no fuel. I've gained access in the back inside of my car where I hoped to find a connector going to the fuel pump, and instead ended up finding a fitting which allows the 4 wires going to the pump to pass between the inside and underside of my car. A friend recommended hitting those wires with 12v, and see if the pump comes to life. Someone else recommended checking continuity, but the conversation was too brief for him to (or the other guy) to tell me which 2 of the four wires to be concerned with. Being as there's no connector there, I'll have to puncture /wiretap them, but I've no idea which ones, or what I'm looking for. Looking for any assistance I can get in diagnosing / troubleshooting this. Don't have much of a budget, wife naggin about the "dead car", but I've got all the time in the world, and am pretty decent with electronics. Got a multimeter and a 12v source to use. No car lift of anything so fancy, wondering if it comes down to it and I have to replace the fuel pump, how tough that'll be for an at-home job (dropping the tank etc).. Can it be done without damaging the lines, etc in the house garage? Please advise :) Roost The_Mechanic_33 10-08-2009, 07:38 PM grey wire is 12v to pump,ecm/batt fuse 20amp;underhood. connector is under car.if you can jack it up high enough is not that hard to do on the ground. Gifts4cheap.net 10-08-2009, 07:41 PM ok find the grey wire put 12v power to it. If the pump works you need to change your relay. If it don't work it isn't hard to change pump in tank just akward to take the tank down if there is a full tank. The lines are plastic so be carefull not to stretch them or you will break them. If the pump works find the relay under the hood and look at the relay you see a schematic on the relay put a jumper in the 87a to 30 spot in the relay socket if your pump works then change the relay out. jeffcoslacker 10-09-2009, 02:13 PM Yeah I'd try swapping the fuel pu,p relay with another one of the same type found under the hood (A/C relay is usually a match) before bothering with hard to access wiring... Artem F 10-12-2009, 12:28 PM the resistance between those wires should be ~10-12 Ohms. If it's infinite then there's a high chance the pump motor coils are fried. If it's 10-12 Ohms and you can measure 12 volts between these wires in the first five seconds after the ignition switch is turned on then the pump is stuck. There's a procedure of putting it back for life for a while but first check if it's the case. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
