air went from 'blows' to 'sucks'RBrandon 10-04-2009, 08:35 PM my wifes 98 grand cherokee has blower issues. It started out that the blower motor would work on the way to school to pick up kids but not on way back. I figured the resistor was getting hot and breaking down so I swapped out the blower motor resistor. No dice. Then swapped out the blower motor, still no dice. I read 12 VDC between the two wires when switched on but it doesn't seem to be a working voltage. Do I look for a bad ground in that portion of the wiring or replace the switch console next? for that matter, can someone tell me whether they are switching the 12 volts or the ground side? I would think the 12v but it is Chrysler... I have thought about providing a new ground path for the motor if that is the issue but don't know if the resistor is wired before or after and would rather find the actual problem and fix it. Suggestions are welcome. ronaldk 10-04-2009, 10:40 PM My haynes book says that the positive side of blower motor will change in voltage amount as you toggle through fan positions and when placed on high that resistor is fully bypassed. This is all with second wire of blower motor hooked to good chassis ground. So you can hook to that wire a clip lead to a valid ground to check ground side. RBrandon 10-07-2009, 09:02 PM Update: verified which wire was hot and grounded the other (to the blower) Then when I touched the hot together the thing would jump to life at full speed even with the switch off and the key out of the ignition. I am leaning towards a jacked up switch and have one lined out on ebay. (was cheaper than the local junk yard idiot that wanted 40 bucks) based on another thread I also checked the contacts on the connector to the resistor. They are fine. Will let you know what the fix is when I stumble across it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
