I had a gas filter blow out on the highway.
It had been installed about 9 months ago. The plastic clip on the filter was still in the gas line. I had AAA tow it to a garage the mechanic had done another filter that day. You can use your fingers and open the clip and remove it easily. Anyway I paid 1/2 hours shop time for the filter clip swap.
It was Sunday and the parts store was closed.
Is this a common problem on Chevrolet's?

Never, ever seen that on anything. Normally you can pull hard on the line and it doesn't pull out. May have only had one of the tabs "clicked" in... or neither. The O-rings and the stiffness of the line may have held it for a while.
