Hey Everyone!

My wife and I are attempting to sell our 2000 Mercury Cougar, however, the emissions light continues to illuminate. The code is P0401, referring to the EGR system. I have replaced the EGR Valve, Sensor and vacuum solenoid, however, the light came on again. I used carb cleaner to clean out all the hoses and ensure no clogs are present, but to my dismay the light continues to remain on. I have reset the computer (removing the battery and touchig the positive and negative) but the light just comes on again after a day or so...

Any suggestions? Am I missing something? I would love to sell this coche!

Thanks!

Did you check that the tubes to the DPFE are clear and not leaking?

Thanks for the reply!

I replaced the DPFE Sensor and have just checked the tubes... Light still on...

:runaround:

Anything else I could be missing?

Update:

Stopped by AutoZone just recently today and the associate instructed me to use Sea Foam to clean out the entire intake. We cleared the computer and hopefully this may have worked. It sure did spit out a lot of smoke and the associate said that is typical as it cleans out all the particulate and carbon dioxide.

But if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it...
