Alex did a great review (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=964356) on this kit, so i don't need to do that anymore. I found my kit on Ebay from a Hong Kong seller the day after Alex did his review. Received it yesterday, and since i don't collect unbuilt kits had to start it straight away. I spent the first evening with one of the rear wheels. What a pain in the neck, but result is IMO worth it.

This is the first layer of spokes, i will have to make other three a bit more symmetric. At this point i was thinking why they don't do wheels like this anymore.

First two spokes of second layer answered my question, it is quite hard to get those thin spokes get across each other and then fit the slot in the hub.

Just when i thought that the second layer was tough work, the third layer is even tougher. Spokes cross each other and the second layer of spokes...

Here is the whole wheel tire package. Wheel is painted with Testors Aluminium Metalizer. The real advantage of using wire spokes glued one by one is that they really do cross each other in a lot more realistic way than the PE wheels used in modern multimedia kits.

How are the wires attached to the centre hub? Are the ends glued to the hub, or do they wrap around the hub to end on the rim?

How long did it take? Are you looking forward to doing three more, or fearing them?

It took about three hours from opening the box. Actually i just wanted to see how this mess of brass wire works and as you see it works just fine. I used regular superglue applied with sharpened toothpick to attach spokes to the hub, they don't wrap around the hub. After all spokes were glued to the hub i just coated outside of the rim with superglue, let dry and used my dremel to cut spokes even with the rim.

Somewhere in between of those options, i didn't actually like doing the first one, but i believe that i did learn something and next three will be a bit easier to do.

Finally found some motivation to do continue this kit. Used around 12 hours to glue 180 spokes... After that the chassis was a pure joy, just painted seats, chassis plate, glued couple of PE parts and it's done:

Looks pretty good. Those brass wire wheels look alot better than I thought they would.

Looking really great. The work on the wheels is mindblowing. But it´s worth every minute spent on them. Way to go!

The calming part of the wheel work is that you know that afterwards it can only get easier.
