Tamiya Calsonic Nissan Primera JTCCAAlmeida 09-15-2009, 07:34 AM Ok, here is my goal, finish all racing cars body kits I have stocked because the decals are yellowing and they can ruin very soon. So, here I go, the first one is Tamiya Calsonic Nissan Primera JTCC. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/primera-1.jpg Not much to say, just primer, sand, primer, sand, primer and sand http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/primer1-1.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/primer2-1.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/primer3.jpg Paint, sand, paint, sand, paint and sand http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color1.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color2.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color3.jpg da_ashman 09-15-2009, 08:08 PM Looking good, dont see many of these any more. How many race cars do you have to build? 935k3 09-15-2009, 09:26 PM Try taping the decal sheet to a sunny window for 4 or 5 days and they will usually whiten up. SCORPIONFB 09-16-2009, 07:49 AM Looks pretty good so far. I will be following your built closely because I am currently working with the same kit. One question: What happened with the two Mercedes???. AAlmeida 09-16-2009, 07:56 AM Looking good, dont see many of these any more. How many race cars do you have to build? da_ashman - Here is my humble stock and I need to finish one AMG Mercedes Promarket DTM, one AMG Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II Debis and one Porsche 904: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/stock.jpg 935k3 - I already did this and they were really better, it was not perfect but it got better a lot. SCORPIONFB - Where is your WIP? I want to following too. Two Mercedes are still awaiting for they be concluded. MidMazar 09-16-2009, 12:10 PM Looking good, one thing i can say is that tamiya makes decent decals. So you shouldn't have to worry, and if they get yellow use the method that was mentioned. Also there are other decal replacments. Nice collections, since your worried about the decals then i would start with the older kits first. Like volvos first, supra, opel and last the mercedes and alfas. It also depends on the decal condition. Good luck. jabel 09-16-2009, 04:03 PM Hello! Nice collection! Did you bild the supra and the volvos? if not, could you take some photos from the kits? thanx jAbel AAlmeida 09-17-2009, 07:05 AM MidMazar - The decal are really nice, there is a little spots that I could not clear taping the decal sheet to a sunny window, but I will let a cople of days more. I like your suggestion, Volvos are next on the line. jabel - I didn't build those yet. Yes, I can take some pictures, post soon. Here is the body ready for the decal job. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color4.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color5.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_color6.jpg Thank you for following, tips and suggestions are welcome. jabel 09-17-2009, 09:20 AM Nice paintjob! Thank you! 512BB 09-17-2009, 09:28 AM Try taping the decal sheet to a sunny window for 4 or 5 days and they will usually whiten up. I have heard that this will work, but will it turn yellow again some times later? Or will it actually turn yellow again after you applied it on the model? 512BB 09-17-2009, 09:31 AM [quote=AAlmeida;6036804]da_ashman - Here is my humble stock and I need to finish one AMG Mercedes Promarket DTM, one AMG Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II Debis and one Porsche 904: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/stock.jpg What about the Ford GT40 in the top right hand corner? You going to build it some other time? Cos I have the same kit in my stock too and the model is very basic and incorrect!:evillol: AAlmeida 09-17-2009, 07:47 PM jabel - thank you! 512BB - worked very well here and the yellowing did not come back again so far. I will build the Ford GT40, but probably will be the last one. You are right, the kit is less then basic and incorrect, but we are modelers and we have to accept some challenges, right? :iceslolan AAlmeida 09-25-2009, 11:55 PM Ok, I'm back. I left the decals a couple days more faced to the sun, it vanished the yellowish 90%. I noticed something that seemed some little fabric glued on the decals, but looking more closely I noticed that were small cracks. So the decals became a little puzzles. Here is the couple weeks final battle result... nor all were perfect, but the final result pleased. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/decal1.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/decal2.jpg AAlmeida 10-14-2009, 05:39 PM the rain took a break... three automotive clear coating, sand and polish, it looks really nice to me. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_polished4.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_polished3.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_polished2.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/aalmeida/body_polished5.jpg gasdriverca 10-14-2009, 08:06 PM Very impressive AAlmeida!!! your collection looks pretty much like mine on the shelf ! AAlmeida 10-15-2009, 07:31 AM Very impressive AAlmeida!!! your collection looks pretty much like mine on the shelf ! thank you! I am learning to dedicate more time in small details that make the difference in the end. looks like we have the same choice for the race cars. KevHw 10-15-2009, 01:08 PM That's a very impressive paint job you've done and I find it impressive how defined your panel lines have stayed. Look forward to seeing your future builds, especially that R390...I've lost momentum on mine :frown: Wondering how your interior looks now. MidMazar 10-15-2009, 10:35 PM What a beautiful paintjob. what automotive clear did you use? AAlmeida 10-16-2009, 05:02 PM KevHw thank you! I did the panel lines with a mix of x-4 and xf-1, 1:10 thinned, personally I don't like black panel lines I prefer the same body color but darkened. what happened with you r390? MidMazar I did use Wanda PU (http://wandarefinish.com/products.shtml) automotive clear. Thank you! KevHw 10-17-2009, 05:22 AM I meant that your panel lines don't appear to be flooded with clear unlike some builds I have seen who have also used 2k clears. I've had to box my R390 for now until I find the guts to detail it how I'd like. Also haven't airbrushed in a while so don't want to ruin it . Any more progress on this? AAlmeida 10-18-2009, 10:42 AM I understand, but airbrushing is like to ride a bicycle, you never forget, go for it. Today I will paint the windows frame and the doors handle with black, post the pictures late, polish and body is done. Thank you for the comments. stevenoble 10-18-2009, 01:06 PM Beautiful finish on the body, looks smooth as glass.
