Moaning noise when turning leftoverdoseland 09-14-2009, 12:45 AM Hi everyone, Howz everyone doing? Good I hope. Anyways I need some help on identifying whats causing a moaning noise when I turn left. I own a 2002 Jeep Overland. The noise is intermittent and it only happens when I'm going slow making a full left turn. Full meaning I'm making, say ,a left u-turn or going in a circle. I don't hear any metal grinding which is a good thing. Its like a weird moaning noise and it sounds like it's coming from the rear end. I don't hear it when just making a regular left turn. I think my ring and pinion bearings are in need of replacement too because I hear a whirring noise when driving at highway speeds. I just started to notice the moan noise when turning left. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!! mkvapil 09-15-2009, 11:46 AM My 2003 Jeep Limited does the same thing. The mechanic said the whole steering column need to be replaced and cost about $1000. I never got it fixed but gonna have to deal with the noise. overdoseland 09-18-2009, 12:24 AM My 2003 Jeep Limited does the same thing. Is the mechanic 100% sure its the steering column? The noise I hear seems to be emanating from the rear so I don't know if its the steering column. Does the noise happen everytime on yours or is it intermittent? Also do you have power steering loss when turning the wheel at slow speeds sometimes?
