Just bought a 2000 ZX2 after having a 97 4 door and it has manual windows and manual door locks. Local Best Buy wants $300.00 to install Keyless Entry due to the fact that it needs actuators, but I was hoping to get a kit and do it myself but am not sure what I need. I have some actuators from my previous Escort that I made both front doors unlock insted of just one, but on Ebay it mentions that these kits are for vehicles that have "Universal fit: as long as your car has central locking". I have no idea what central locking is.

Any Ford mechanics here? Just wondering what it would take to use a factory keyless entry and what parts I would need?

hey man..i just installed a alarm in my escort lx earlier this week.
I used the masterlock wireless autosentry, check it out. I paid $70 bucks. The only thing i had to do is install the siren and connect it to the battery.

Easy stuff and works..

Existing keyless entry is central locking. They just sell the acuators. The wiring and components of the factory keyless entry are fairly complicated. You'd need the R and L front door lock switch, Power door lock actuators, power door lock relay, antenna and the RAP module. You'd have to hook a wire from the RAP module to the radio antenna to recieve the signal. There are 6 terminals on the RAP module. One terminal goes to the room fuse box. Four terminals go to the power door lock relay and one terminal goes to ground. There are 4 remaining terminals on the power door lock relay. One goes to the door lock fuse box, one goes to ground and the last 2 go to the front door lock actuators. The door switches (4 wires) go to the RAP module and the relay. Get an electrical schematic of the electronic door lock control system and it will show you where the wires go on the components. It can be done. You would have to go to the boneyard and get all the components. Then, you'd have to wire them all together according to the schematic because the existing harness wires are not there. If you are knowledgeable about auto electrics it could be done. However, I'd just use the key and save myself a whole lot of trouble, but that's just me.

Thanks Dave, Sounds way too complicated to me, think I will go with the aftermarket one on Ebay for $54 shipped, anyone have experience with aftermarket ones?
